EU Special Representative In The South Caucasus Welcomes Serzh Sargs

EU SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE IN THE SOUTH CAUCASUS WELCOMES SERZH SARGSYAN’S POSITION CONCERNING TURKEY

ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan received EU Special
Representative in the South Caucasus Peter Semneby who attended
parliamentary hearings on Armenian-Turkish relations, Wednesday.

The special representative gave much importance to the parliamentary
hearings and said he follows the attitude of the Armenian society
to the Armenian-Turkish relations with interest. He emphasized that
EU, as a partner of Armenia and Turkey is ready to stimulate similar
discussions becoming a bridge between the two countries. For his part,
the prime minister also mentioned the importance of the hearings
and added that it would desirable if Turkish representatives were
present at it. S. Sargsyan expressed hope that EU will promote Turkey’s
involvement in such discussions. "Thereby, an opportunity is provided
to express their points of view. I have always been sure that we have
to establish relations with Turkey without preconditions", Serzh
Sargsyan said and added that such a step would be in the interests
of Armenia and Turkey. According to him, Turkey’s joining EU would
promote settlement of Armenian-Turkish relations as, in that way,
Ankara would accept the rules of game common for the whole EU.

P. Semneby referred to the fact that Armenian NA speaker is for
Turkey’s EU membership as an important positive impetus. He said
he thinks they must support people who are for the normalization of
Armenian Turkish relations.
