ROBERT KOCHARIAN: ‘ARAM KARAPTYAN’S PARTICIPATION IN THE COMING ELECTION WOULD BE ADVANTAGEOUS FOR US’

ArmInfo. "Leader of New Times Party Aram Karaptyan’s participation
in the coming presidential election would be advantageous for us, as
the parliamentary election held in May showed that he has no special
rating, and the revolutionary outburst is not supported by the people",
Armenian President Robert Kocharian said in answer to journalists’
question in Tsakhkadzor.
According to the president, during any election the presence of such
a candidate, who could "gladden the people" is necessary. "From the
political point of view Aram Karapetyan’s participation in the election
would really be advantageous for us, as in this way, opposition votes
would spread", R. Kocharian emphasized.
To recall, the Court of First Instance of Kentron-Nork Marash community
in Yerevan today rejected the suit of Leader of the opposition
"New Times" Party against the Visa and Passport Department of the
RA Police. Thereby A. Karapetyan who has dual citizenship and is
registered in Moscow was deprived of the right to stand in the 2008
presidential election.
