MIGRATION OF ARMENIAN WOMEN LESSENS

During 2005-2007, 14.5 percent of household were enrolled in employment
related migration, which makes up 99-127 thousand families. In 80.6
percent of cases, only one member of the family migrated, this data
was released during the summarization of research findings conducted
on employment migration.

In the words of Anna Minasyan, representative of Advanced Social
Technologies, 3-3.8 percent of population migrates on employment
reasons making up 96-122 thousand persons. The 59.4 percent of
those surveyed were once enrolled in employment migration before
2005. According to the survey results, the employment migration of the
rural population has increased in the course of recent 2 years. The
migration in rural dwellings increased by 3.5 percent and it decreased
in the capital by 2.4 percent. Those who seek employment abroad are
of mid social status.

The main country of destination is Russia, followed by USA and Ukraine.

In the words of Gagik Yeganyan, territorial management ministry
migration service department head, the results of this research will
be used in policy development.
