ArmInfo. The Cassation Court of Armenia has annulled the contract
between the Armenian State Social Insurance Fund and the VTB-Armenia
Bank, Meri Khachatryan, a lawyer at the Armenian Center for the
Protection of Human Rights after Sakharov, told ArmInfo correspondent.
To note, the contract restricted the period for receiving pensions at
the branches of VTB-Armenia Bank CJSC (former ArmSavingsBank).
The Nov 9 decision of the Cassation Court of Armenia is final and
without appeal, as both parties to the contract violated a number of
items of the Armenian legislature. To note, according to the contract
between the Fund and the bank, if a pensioner failed to receive his/her
pension at the VTB-Armenia Bank CJSC’s branches within a week-long
period, he/she lost the chance to receive it until the 10-12th day of
the next month. The terms of this contract made pensioners refuse
"free" banking services and receive their pensions through social
employees. For their part, social employees had an opportunity to take
"an unwritten tax" for their service from pensioners, and over the
recent years this "tax" has grown from 100- 200 AMD to 500 AMD at the
mean.
