On November 6 the members of Karabakh Committee released a statement
which runs: "The last wish of Academician Raphael Ghazaryan, a member
of Karabakh Committee, to his friends and relatives was to be buried
at Yerablur. The latter have turned to the relevant agencies for
permission to bury the academician at Yerablur. The government
refused to fulfill the last wish of the deceased and made quite
another decision.
Raphael Ghazaryan, a Word War II veteran, one of the leaders of
the Karabakh movement, a devoted warrior and activist, had a great
contribution to the war in Karabakh. Therefore, we the members of
Karabakh Committee cannot understand the decision of the government
which has neither legal nor moral grounds."
The statement has been signed by Samvel Gevorgyan, Alexan Hakobyan,
Samson Ghazaryan, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Ashot Manucharyan, Babken
Ararxian, Vazgen Manukyan, Davit Vardanyan, Igor Muradyan, Manvel
Sargsyan.
