CONSTRUCTION OF HYDROPOWER PLANT ON ARAX RIVER TO FINISH NEXT YEAR

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 31, NOYAN TAPAN. The design work and technical studies
on construction of the 5th power unit of the Hrazdan Thermal Power
Plant have already been completed. The tender documents have also
been prepared and submitted to the company’s board of directors for
approval. The RA minister of energy Armen Movsisian informed reporters
on October 31 that the work will mainly include the restoration of
the power unit and the assembly of a new gas turbine.

A. Movsisian said that the company to reconstruct the Yerevan Thermal
Power Plant will be announced by late November.

According to him, construction of a hydropower plant on the Arax River
will start next year, with about 200 million dollars to be spent on
construction work. It is planned to build a hydropower plant with
a capacity of 130-140 megawatts and an annual productivity of 800
million kwh.

A. Movsisian said that the Georgian side has not yet submited a bid
for purchasing electric power from Armenia.
