President Kocharyan Met With President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Of Iran

PRESIDENT KOCHARYAN MET WITH PRESIDENT MAHMOUD AHMADINEJAD OF IRAN

At the invitation of President Robert Kocharian on October 22
the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
arrived for a two-day official visit to Armenia, President’s Press
Office reports.

The delegation headed by the President of Iran comprises the Minister
of Foreign Affairs, Chair of the Intergovernmental Commission Manucher
Motaki, Acting Minister on Oil issues Mr. Nouzari, Chief Adviser
to the President Samare Hashemin, member of the Islamic Parliament
Nategh Nouri, and other officials.

After the official ceremony of welcoming the high guest at the
Presidential residence, Robert Kocharian and Mahmoud Ahnadinejad held
a private meeting.

The Presidents of the two states discussed a wide range of issues
concerning the Armenian-Iranian relations in different areas, the
current level of cooperation and prospects of its development.

Stressing the high level of relations between Armenia and Iran,
based on centuries-long friendship of the two peoples, the parties
reiterated their readiness to further deepen the existing relations.

President Robert Kocharian and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also
exchanged views on the pressing regional and international issues.

Later, the meeting of the two Presidents was continued in an
extended setting, after which Robert Kocharian and President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad signed a joint declaration. Signed was also a Memorandum of
Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and
Ministry of Foreign Affair of Iran on reciprocal opening of General
Consulates, as well as a Memorandum between the Central Banks of
the two states on the Monitoring of Banking activities. The Armenian
Development Agency and Iranian Organization on Investments, Economic
and Technical Assistance signed the agreement on encouragement of
investments, and on the construction in Armenia of a wind power
station.

The leaders of Armenia and Iran gave a joint press conference.
