Armenia’s premier, millennium challenges director discuss program
implementation in Armenia

YEREVAN, October 19. /ARKA/. RA Prime Minister Serge Sargsian and
Executive Director of the Millennium Challenges Corporation John
Danilovich discussed on October 18 the programs implemented by the
corporation in Armenia.

The RA Premier highly appreciated the Armenian-US economic
cooperation the aim of which is to support economic development and
reduce poverty in Armenian regions, the press service of the RA
Government reports.

Danilovich pointed out that during its regular meeting in November
the corporation’s board will sum up the results of the programs
implemented in member-countries. Millennium Challenges is content
with the program implementation in Armenia, Danilovich said.

Prime Minister Sargsian stated that Armenia has become an
average-income country, which is an impetus to the economic
regeneration of the country.

According to Danilovich, the corporation focuses on the problems of
its member-countries. He attached importance to the second program of
Millennium Challenges which is being carried out together with the
acting program.

He pointed out that the US Congress supports amendments to the
programs, which will give more advantages to the member-countries.
The RA Premier assured the RA Government is ready to support the
amendments.

On March 26, 2006 RA Minister of Economy and Finances Vardan
Khachatrian and Executive Director of Millennium Challenges John
Danilovich signed a cooperation agreement, according to which, the
corporation will allocate $235.65mln for irrigation and
reconstruction of village roads.

The Millennium Challenges Corporation (USA) was established in 2004
within the scope of the US Sate Department program of economic
development and poverty reduction in the world. -0–
