Call for boycott

The passing of Armenian bill was protested in Istanbul and Ankara
with demonstrations. The union of consumers called for boycotting US
products.

‘Do not make reprisal’

The Armenian genocide bill passed although the president Bush and the
influential figures of the cabinet warned, which caused panic around
the government. The undersecretary of the foreign affairs said: "we
struggled to take a different decision. We hope Turkish government’s
reactions remains at the level of statement."

Armenian lobby has got the first results of its lobby activities
going on for years the day before yesterday. The US House of
Representatives has passed the bill recognizing the Armenian genocide
which Turkey could postpone for years. The warnings by the government
about the "strategic partnership and delivery to Iraq" could not
prevent the passing of the bill. The eminent figures of the US
parliament made statements to lower down the tension just after the
bill passed.

The undersecretary of the foreign affairs, Nicholas Burns, said: "our
government was very disappointed by the result. We struggled to take
a different decision. We hope Turkish government’s reactions remains
at the level of statement."
