/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The Turkish parliament yesterday warned the United
States Congress that the bilateral relations could be seriously
damaged if the Armenian Genocide Resolution is passed.

"If approved, it would be difficult to control the dynamics that
would be triggered by the reaction of the Turkish public opinion,"
Koksal Toptan, the Turkish parliament speaker, said to his counterpart
Nancy Pelosi in a letter he sent Sunday.

Meanwhile, a delegation of six Turkish lawmakers will launch a new
initiative this week in Washington D.C. in a move to lobby Congress
members.

"It will be the problem and the shame of the United States rather
than of Turkey, if they make an historical mistake by passing this
resolution despite our efforts," MP Egemen Bagýs said, the Turkish
Daily News reported.

Earlier, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan telephoned
U.S. President Bush to oppose the H.Res.106. However, the
U.S. Constitution bars the President from interfering into
congressional affairs.
