"In general, I respect the activity of the opposition, both now and
in the past," Davit Harutyunyan, Armenia’s delegation leader to the
European Parliament, said today at a press conference in the National
Assembly in response to a question as to whether opposition members in
this year’s Armenian delegation exposed the country’s "dirty laundry"
as they had in the past.

"I think it is correct for the opposition to raise certain
issues. There are no secrets here, and not matter how distasteful it
might be to talk about a colleague’s misdeeds, it is the bitter pill
needed to become a democratic country, to move forward. For this,
I respect the opposition’s critical approach," Harutyunyan added.

He confessed that at the European Parliament sessions opposition
figures in the delegation spoke critically about their country. But
Harutyunyan considers this as something normal, because "this is what
makes the opposition what it is." Besides this, Harutyunyan said,
it has already become known that the delegation’s work was considered
as active.

We note that the delegation consisted of opposition figures Raffi
Hovhannisian, from Heritage, and Mher Shahgeldyan, from Legal State.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
