Armenian President Wants Prime Minister To Be His Successor

ARMENIAN PRESIDENT WANTS PRIME MINISTER TO BE HIS SUCCESSOR

Yerevan, 14 September: The Armenian presidential press secretary,
Viktor Soghomonyan, said in Yerevan today that the head of state
[Robert Kocharyan] does not hide his wish to see Armenian Prime
Minister Serzh Sargsyan as Armenia’s next president.

Speaking at a news conference in Yerevan today, Viktor Soghomonyan,
said that Kocharyan had stated this in his latest interview with the
German Der Spiegel magazine.

Commenting on reports about former Armenian president Levon
Ter-Petrosyan’s possible participation in the election, Viktor
Soghomonyan said that "the participation in the election is his
constitutional right, however Ter-Petrosyan himself should decide
whether this step is expedient or not".
