Armenia Fund Renovates Yerevan Nursing Home

Armenia Fund Executive Director Vahe Aghabegians visited Yerevan No. 1
Nursing Home on Wednesday, August 25, where he met with residents whose
lives have changed drastically as a result of $135,000 in renovations.

Armenia Fund completed the upgrading and refurbishing of 27 rooms in the
second block of the building and fully restored the sanitary units and
internal water pipelines of the complex. The project was sponsored by
Armenia Fund’s France and US East Coast Affiliates.

Currently, around 250 elderly people live in the Soviet-era building which
had not been renovated since its construction in 1978.

"We are very grateful to Armenia Fund for all it has done for us," said
Jemma Karapetian, who lives with her husband in one of the newly renovated
rooms. "This undertaking is extremely important for us not only because of
the obvious physical benefits but also because we feel that we’re still
remembered, that somebody cares."

During the emotional meeting, Mr. Aghabegians stressed the importance of
continued implementation of similar projects. The residents, all of them
healthy and self-sufficient participated in the discussion.

"Projects aimed at assisting the most vulnerable members of our society have
always been and will remain a priority for Armenia Fund," said Mr.
Aghabegians. "We must make sure our citizens are not marginalized in their
senior years and that they live them in dignity."
