The visit of the Armenian president Robert Kocharyan to Moscow gives
rise to questions. The point is that the speaker of the president
stated yesterday no details regarding the visit, including the format,
time, meetings of the visit are known. Meanwhile, usually the agenda
of visits of high-ranking officials is known beforehand. Today’s
release included some general wording: Robert Kocharyan will discuss
the Armenian and Russian relations with the president of Russia.
Apparently, during this hasty visit the problems which were raised
in the media will be discussed, namely the upcoming presidential
election, the personal future of Robert Kocharyan, a few deals,
namely VivaCell, the factories handed over to Russia in return for
debt and other problems.
After the Armenian parliamentary election the West, namely the Unite
States, demonstratively stepped aside from the affairs of Armenia
ceding the place to Russia. For its part, official Moscow does not
appear likely to give guarantees to the Armenian government regarding
its vital issues, namely the future of Robert Kocharyan. Meanwhile,
the purpose of the visit, according to our source, is to reach
agreement over these issues. Will this attempt be successful? It
will be known when the visit is over. At least, the gas supply of
Armenia was restored within a day although they had announced about
a six-day outage.
