YEREVAN, JUNE 26, NOYAN TAPAN. The number of Armenian peacekeepers in
Kosovo will be increased by another 30. As Noyan Tapan correspondent
was informed by RA Defence Minister Mikayel Haroutiunian, soon one
more platoon will join the Armenian platoon already involved in the
Greek peacekeeping battalion.

The Minister attached importance to the necessity to enlarge
Armenia’s participation in peacekeeping actions in Kosovo. Besides,
in M. Haroutiunian’s words, presence of Armenian peacekeepers is
important for keeping their preparedness degree at a high level. The
Minister said that the term of sending the second peacekeeping platoon
to Kosovo has not been determined yet: it will be announced after
being coordinated with NATO and Greek military leadership.

M. Haroutiunian said that Armenia is not going to send a peacekeeping
subdivision to Afghanistan. However, it is not excluded that two or
three Armenian doctors and an interpreter will be sent to Afghanistan.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
