Permanent Court of Arbitration secretary general invites Azerbaijan
to join Convention for the Pacific Settlement of Disputes

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received secretary
general of Permanent Court of Arbitration Tjaco T.van den Hout, the
ministry’s press service told the APA.
The secretary general said that the organization has 107 members, it
deals with the regulation of disputes between states by means of
arbitration. He noted that along with territorial disputes,
humanitarian law violations the court also considers economic issues
and disputes of private companies.
He underlined that admission of South Caucasus countries, as well as
Azerbaijan to the court of arbitration is desirable and invited the
country to join the Convention for the Pacific Settlement of
Disputes.
Azerbaijani minister Elmar Mammadyarov said the proposal will be
considered. He touched upon unsolved issues, Armenia’s aggression
against Azerbaijan, humanitarian law violations due to Armenia’s
ethnic cleansing policy and said that these cases contradict
international law.
Establishing and developing the relations between the court and
Azerbaijan was debated during the meeting. /APA/
