"It’s an honor for me to receive your congratulatory address on the
occasion of my election as President of France. I will do my utmost
to merit your trust," French President Nicolas Sarkozy said in a
letter in response to congratulation issued by His Holiness Aram I,
the Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia. "I will do my utmost
to strengthen friendship between Armenian and French people and will
advocate human values, which make this friendship firmer. France’s
attitude towards the Armenian people remains unchangeable. I am
convinced that recognition of the Armenian Genocide is the moral
responsibility of Turkey. I assure you that I will henceforth be
determined on the issue," Mr Sarkozy’s letter says.

"Support to Lebanon was one of my election pledges. In the name of the
centuries-old French-Lebanese friendship, France will always defend
the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Lebanon. It
will be a great pleasure and honor for me to meet you during your
visit to France or within the framework of my visit to Lebanon," the
letter says, the Chancellery of the Cilician Catholicosate reported.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
