AZERBAIJANI DEFENCE MINISTER LEAVES FOR BRUSSELS FOR PARTICIPATION IN NATO MEETING

Azerbaijan, Baku / Òrend corr E. Huseynli / Azerbaijani Defence
Minister, Safar Abiyev, has left today for Brussels to participate in
the meeting of the NATO Defence Ministers. According to the Azerbaijani
Defence Ministry, combating international terrorism will be discussed
at the meeting.

Armenian Defence Minister, Mikael Artunyan, has also joined the
meeting. Bilateral meetings of Abiyev will take place within the
framework of the NATO meeting. As to the meeting between Abiyev and
his Armenian counterpart, information is not available.

The meeting of the NATO Defence Ministers will take place on 15 June.

Azerbaijan was cooperating with the North Atlantic alliance from 1994
to 2004 within the framework of the ‘Partnership for Peace’ program.

For the time being, cooperation is held within the framework of the
‘Individual Partnership’ program.
