Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanyan hopes that the meeting of
the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan in St Petersburg will achieve
results and will make it possible "to progress in the settlement of
the Karabakh conflict." He said this in Yerevan on Tuesday at the
joint press conference with chairman in office of the OSCE Migel
Angel Moratinos, the Spanish foreign minister.
Oskanyan said if the arrangement is reached in St Petersburg, work
will continue at the level of foreign ministers of the two countries
to coordinate "the basic principles of settlement of the conflict
that are on the negotiating table."
The minister also said that during the talks Moratinos was informed
of "Armenia’s expectations and approaches to the Karabakh settlement
problems and to the document that is on the negotiating table."
Oskanyan noted at the same time that "the right of the people of
Nagorno-Karabakh to self-determination is the main problem of the
settlement." "It is impossible to discuss any question without its
confirmation and endorsement," the minister warned.
"We must concentrate on the problem of the status of Nagorno-Karabakh,
and "this question can be settled only by recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh
and giving it an opportunity for self-determination," the Armenian
foreign minister said.
