A trial on Azerbaijani soldier Eldaniz Nuriyev has got underway at the
Military Court for grave offences, today. Nuriyev was taken hostage by
the Armenian party and is now charged with high treason. The soldier
pled guilty.

Azerbaijani media reports that the trial is chaired by the judge
Iskender Hajiyev. The indictment has been announced. Thus, E. Nuriyev
lost his way on December 31 2006 and fell prisoner in the territory of
Fizouli region. He was released on January 16 2007. A criminal case was
lodged against him in the motherland on Article 274 (parricide). On
June 7 witnesses in the case will be interrogated. The practice in
Azerbaijan shows that each soldier who falls prisoner to the Armenian
party is automatically charged with high treason and often sentenced
to a long term of imprisonment.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
