YEREVAN, MAY 25, NOYAN TAPAN. The new passenger complex of Yerevan’s
Zvartnots Airport opened on May 25 with the participation of the
Armenian president Robert Kocharian and the chairman of American
International Airports – manager of Zvartnots Airport Eduardo
Eurnekian. This complex covering an area of 19.2 thousand square
meters is designed for servicing 2 million passengers a year.

The Armenian president said that "this is the first entry into
Armenia," and he is convinced that this "entry" reflects correctly the
image of Armenia in the near future – as a country with a prosperous,
developed and competitive economy. This is also one of the largest
invsetments in the Republic of Armenia and it will have an immediate
impact on the country’s economy. In the words of R. Kocharian, they
reacted patiently to the criticism voiced at the initial stage of
the program as they were convinced that time is the best judge.

R. Kocharian also noted that E. Eurnekian started implementing several
other programs in Armenia, including those in the agricultural and
energy sectors.

According to E. Eurnekian, the new complex is a new bridge to the
world, and it is the best one in the whole region. He said that this
is the first stage of the investment program, with about 100 mln
USD being spent on it. The implementation of the second and third
stages will start soon and be completed in 2010, for which another
100 million dollars will be invested. "Armenia deserves the best,"
E. Eurnekian remarked.

The servicing of passengers at the new complex will start on June
1. Their registration will be done in the old building of Zvartnots
Airport, while the other functions – in the new complex. The
construction of the new passenger complex began in June 2004. The
arrival hall has functioned since September 2006.
