AGREEMENT ON TERMS OF FREIGHT THROUGH POTI-CAUCASUS FAIRY LINE TO BE
SIGNED IN ASTANA
YEREVAN, May 18. /ARKA/. The agreement on the terms of freight
through Poti-Caucasus fairy line is to be signed in Astana, the Press
Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communication of Armenia
Tamara Ghalechian reported.
"The agreement on the terms of cargo transportation between the
shipping company and the Russian, Armenian and Georgian side will
possibly be signed today at the 46th sitting of the Council on
Railway Transport of CIS countries in Astana," Ghalechian said.
According to her, the maiden regular trip is to be made after the
agreement is signed. The first freight for Armenia – five 5 electric
locomotives – was delivered to Poti through the ferry line two days
ago.
On February 13 2007, the Armenian Government and the Swiss Reserve
Capital Corporation signed memorandum about Poti-Caucasus ferry
communication line. Under the document, two new ferries will operate
on the line. The ferries are to overcome the 315 miles between the
two ports in 31 hours. The cargo transportation from Poti and Batumi
to Ukrainian Ilyichevsk port will take about one week. As the ferries
are one-deckers, the loading and unloading will take only 1-1.5
hours. N.V. -0–
