BAKU: Former Hostage Vusal Garajayev Sentenced To 11 Years In Jail

FORMER HOSTAGE VUSAL GARAJAYEV SENTENCED TO 11 YEARS IN JAIL

Azerbaijan soldier facing charges of high treason was sentenced to
11 years by Grievous Crimes Court under the chairmanship of Judge
Jamal Ramazanov today, APA reports.

22-year-old Vusal Garajayev was drafted from Balakan region in the
summer of 2005. He was captured by Armenians during the military
service in the military unit. He was released from hostage on December
31 through the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The law enforcement authorities carried out investigations on his case
after he was freed. He was arrested on January 27. Vusal Garajayev was
charged under Articles 274(high treason), 334.3 (deserting) and 338.1
(violence of rules of military service) of the Criminal Code.
