YEREVAN, MAY 10, NOYAN TAPAN. For the Republican Party of Armenia,
holding of free, fair and transparent elections is the first and
foremost task and this is necessary for not gaining the sympathy of
European observers, but for the country itself. Edvard Sharmazanov,
RPA Spokesperson, stated at the May 10 press conference. "We wish not
dictatorship, but multi-party democratic system, the first condition
of which is free, fair and transparent elections," he said. Besides,
in E. Sharmazanov’s words, the authorities understand very well that
if they fail to hold free, fair and transparent elections, this will
cast a doubt on holding of presidential elections meeting democratic
standards.

He said that there are all grounds to expect that the majority of
Armenia’s citizens’ votes will be given for RPA. In E. Sharmazanov’s
words, by results of surveys ordered not only by RPA, but also others,
RPA enjoys confidence of majority of voters. "A voter will vote for the
political force, which has an ideology, pro-state leaders, activity
inspiring confidence," he said. In the words of RPA Spokesperson,
the results, which proceed from people’s interests, will be acceptable
for RPA.

Answering journalists’ questions about possible violations in
elections, E. Sharmazanov assured that all RPA members, who doing party
a disservice will contribute to holding of non-democratic elections,
will be punished.
