Armenian FM meets with EU Commissioner for External Relations and
European Neighborhood Policy

During his working visit to Brussels Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan
Oskanyan met with EU Commissioner for External Relations and European
Neighborhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner.

The Information and Press Department of the Foreign Minister of
Armenia reports Ferrero-Waldner to express satisfaction with Armenia’s
involvement in the Armenia-EU project and to note that the EU is
expecting the Armenian authorities to submit their priorities under
the project. Oskanyan told her about the work that being done to this
end. He noted that the opening of a European Commission office in
Yerevan will greatly help in the matter. Ferrero-Waldner noted that
the EC is considering this possibility.

The sides also discussed the problems of the South Caucasus,
particularly, the possiblities of regional cooperation. Oskanyan
stressed the importance of the EU’s negative attitude towards the
construction of Kars-Akhalkalaki railroad.

Ferrero-Waldner stressed the importance of free and fair election
in Armenia and expressed satisfaction with the favorable conditions
created for the European observers.

Ferrero-Waldner invited Oskanyan to take part in the Sept 3 Brussels
meeting of the European FMs.
