CRU ANNOUNCES

[01:39 pm] 21 March, 2007

On March 21, the Constitutional Right Union spread the following
announcement, "The recent illegal actions of the RA officialdom
against the CRU have resulted in illegal and political outcomes." The
confiscation of the CRU central office, the editorial office of
"Iravunk" newspaper, the property of the party and the belongings of
the staff testify to these illegal steps. Further on the Compulsory
Executive Services handed all the above-mentioned things to people
not related to the party."

As a result, the CRU has been deprived of the chance to run for the
RA NA elections. This is an apparent breach of the RA Constitution
and Electoral Code which puts the legitimacy of the 2007 Parliament
elections into peril.

The announcement reads, "The acting leader of the party, Hayk
Babukhanyan applies the criminal mechanisms of insinuation and false
treachery towards the CRU presidium members and Executive Board."

The CRU regional heads are pursued. The representatives of the
CRU board announce that all the pursuits are initiated by the RA
authorities against the CRU and Hayk Babukhanyan on political grounds.

They are aimed at preventing the CRU’s engagement in the upcoming
parliamentary elections and at hindering Hayk Babukhanyan’s involvement
in the proportional constituency and the activity of free media.

The above-mentioned state actions broke the principles of free media
and diversity of parties in Armenia.

CRU is determined to struggle for the implementation of political and
civil rights, free and fair elections to secure Hayk Babuhkanyan’s
victory in the election campaign."

"Petak" Employees Are Fond Of Their Director

"PETAK" EMPLOYEES ARE FOND OF THEIR DIRECTOR

[02:59 pm] 21 March, 2007

Today A1+’s correspondent tried to find out whether the rumors that
the director of "Petak" fair threatens the employees to dismiss from
work in case they don’t give their passports are true.

In answer to our questions, some employees refuted the information and
protected the director stating that "he is a good and strict person"
and nobody can make them do anything against their will.

One of the respondents pointed out that he has worked for ages and
has never come across cases of collecting passports. She assumes
that some party members visit flats and collect passports but only
the most vulnerable stratum of the society agree to their offer.

The owner of the neighbouring pavilion noted, "It doesn’t matter that
our director comes from Karabakh.

He has nothing in common with President Kocharyan. He is a decent
person and uses no political linger".

Another seller confessed that she is a Republican, lives in Kentron,
and is fond of their district head who is also a Republican. She
assures that she willingly gave her passport to the party.

While we were interviewing the fair employees, the head guard learnt
about our visit and began to inquire about the aim of our visit.

He assured that no cases of passport collection have occurred in the
fair. One of the policemen noted that "we must take the permission
of the administration in case we want to clarify any data".

They deem the rumors about passport collection provocation towards
the fair and its employees.

Metal’s Bark Is Far Worse Than Its Bite

METAL’S BARK IS FAR WORSE THAN ITS BITE

Heavy metal ‘a comfort for the bright child’

It must be worrying to parents of teenage rockers that the National
Academy For Gifted and Talented Youth has pinpointed heavy metal
as a favoured music of 11-19 year olds with lower self-esteem than
their peers.

This conclusion – that indie, pop and classical fans have a healthier
self image and are better at forming relationships – implies that
metal is a socially divisive force.

advertisementAny old metal-head will tell you such a perspective is
preposterously misleading. Heavy metal has long been a harmless form
of escapism.

Occasionally it hits the headlines, such as when the 1999 Columbine
High School shootings were blamed on the music of Marilyn Manson and
German industrial metallers Rammstein, but these cases almost always
prove to be tabloid scare-mongering.

Ever since the genre was brought into existence in the late ’60s by
the likes of Deep Purple, metal’s main emphasis has been on technical
guitar skill, male bonding and theatrical shows. Little has changed.

Black metallers Cradle of Filth may look and sound a great deal more
unpleasant than Alice Cooper but, in the end, both deal in the same
cabaret Hammer Horror schtick.

Metal in all its forms, and there are many – doom, sludge, death,
goregrind, industrial, prog, stoner, etc, etc – is an easily
embraceable form of outsiderdom that appeals to the introvert.

>>From the days when denim and leather (also the name of a Saxon
album) was the uniform, to the mascara/fringe combo popular with
many contemporary fans, metal is a badge of teen individuality that
requires no deep philosophical commitment.

It has much in common with the escapism of fantasy literature, albeit
couched in a more aggressive context.

Lyrics often have high-fallutin’ literary pretensions, closer to JRR
Tolkien than punk’s righteous fury.

Indeed, Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson, singer of such opuses as Rime
Of The Ancient Mariner and Flight Of Icarus, is a virtuoso fencer
and published novelist.

When 17 of the National Academy’s gifted metal-heads had an online
chat about their tastes it became clear that the music was a way of
venting the stress of their driven intelligence.

The youngsters said they could connect with metal’s "politics".

While it’s true that a few groups, such as Armenian-American rockers
System Of A Down, approach their political beliefs very seriously,
most metal fans simply require the odd burst of anger replete with
very loud guitars.

Rage Against The Machine’s Killing In The Name is a song about racism
from a passionately political group, but hearing a crowd of metal-heads
chant along to the chorus, "F**k you, I won’t do what you tell me,"
it sounds more like a protest at being asked to clear up an untidy
bedroom.

Metal doesn’t even have the drugs that the ostensibly more upbeat
and sociable dance culture does. Ecstasy and techno go hand in hand
but most metal fans simply enjoy a few beers.

In essence, heavy metal is a lot of sweaty fun, a sixth form common
room favourite for over thirty years.

Parents of junior metallers should happily regard it as a phase. Which
isn’t to say that there won’t always be a place in their progeny’s
adult life for the 21st century equivalent of ACDC’s Highway To Hell.

Many of us can vouch for the fact that wanting to head-bang along to
Motorhead’s Ace Of Spades every now and then does not preclude having
a thriving adult life.

Heavy metal’s bark is far worse than its bite. In reality it’s about
as dangerous as a night out at the circus.

YEREVAN, MARCH 21, NOYAN TAPAN. Though the official propaganda of
the parliamentary elections did not start yet, but it does not mean
that no electoral violations can be before it. NA Deputy Speaker,
ARF Bureau member Vahan Hovhannisian made such a statement at the
National Assembly on March 20. In his words, phenomena causing
anxiety are already noticed today: particularly, some organizations
and separate individuals from public organizations, who presenting
themselves as representatives of the state machinery, gather data
base about citizens.

V. Hovhannisian mentioned that gathering passports of citizens,
those people violate the law. He stated that nobody has a right to
demand their passports, irrespective of the fact what structure he
represents. The NA Deputy Speaker called on the citizens not to give
personal data to anybody and "vote freely."

Welcoming his colleague’s statement, Chairman of National Democrates’
Alliance Arshak Sadoyan mentioned that representatives of different
compatriotic unions visit citizens and "gather passports in the most
obscene way." In his words, the "Zhoghovrdakan Ughi" (Democratic Path)
party in the proportional list of which he was nominated, can also
call on 280 thousand of people from Aparan by origin to vote for them,
but "it is not a manner." (To recap, "Zhoghovrdakan Ughi" Chairman
Manuk Gasparian and Aghasi Arshakian involved in the party list are
from Aparan by origin). A.Sadoyan considered inadmissible attempts
to divide citizens of Armenia according to their territorial belonging.

The NDA Chairman mentioned that though the opposition was not able
to unite but it must make an attempt to jointly cotrol the process
of elections. In his words, the control process must be given an
organization shape, by founding united control structures in all the
2000 electoral districts.

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ "High efficiency of the Azeri army and economic
development rate predetermine the soonest settlement in the Nagorno
Karabakh conflict in the interests of our state," Azerbaijani President
Ilham Aliyev said in Baku. "I have no doubt that the Nagorno Karabakh
conflict will be resolved in our favor.

Azerbaijan’s position in the conflict strengthens with time due to
successful development of the republic and growing support of states
and organizations," Aliyev assured.

"Certainly, it encourages us. Nevertheless, we count for our own
strengths first of all. Time works for us," he said adding that
Azerbaijan’s economy is seven times as much powerful than Armenia’s and
the index will increase due to implementation of regional projects,"
