Armenian budget deficit at 0.6% of GDP in 2006

The Armenian budget deficit was 15.358 billion dram, or 0.6% of GDP,
in 2006, a source in the National Statistics Service told Interfax.

Revenue and official budget transfers totaled 439.62 billion dram, or
16.5% of GDP in 2006, which was a growth of 17.9% from 2005. Tax
revenue grew 18.2% to 359.71 billion dram, or 13.5% of GDP.

Budget spending rose 15.1% to 454.978 billion dram, or 17.1% of GDP,
in 2006. Official transfers were 89.532 billion dram, capital
spending was 89.228 billion dram and government loans were 15.974
billion dram.

Military spending was 2.9% of GDP. Spending on education and science
was 2.7% of GDP and spending on social insurance and social support
was 2% of GDP.

The official exchange rate on February 1 was 358.8 dram/$1.
