April 17, 2026
On April 17, during the discussion of the performance of the RA government’s plan for 2025 in the National Assembly, in his speech, the former Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, the head of the “Armenia” faction, Seyran Ohanyan, referred to the 44-day war of 2020, the responsibility of the political leadership in its initiation and defeat.
In particular, according to him, the inadequate management of Nikol Pashinyan’s power, conflicting political statements, actions that damaged the existing negotiation process, led to the 44-day war of 2020.
“Of course, the main culprit is Azerbaijan who started the military operations, but during the war you did nothing to mobilize the country, achieve success and fulfill the task before us, we were able to fulfill that task,” Seyran Ohanyan said.
The fact that the authorities failed the mobilization plan during the 44-day war, we have argued more than once.
And the colonel-general did not avoid Nikol Pashinyan’s accusations addressed to the generals from the NA podium.
“Mr. Pashinyan says that the generals ran away. The leadership of the National Assembly and the deputies came to the place where there was a need for reservists who had left the field of combat for one reason or another. Meanwhile, the deputies did not hesitate to go, at least for a few hours, to work with the “mob resource” (reservists. – ed.). Who ran away now? did the generals run away or the parliamentarians who were there? And I know some of them,” insisted the former Minister of Defense.
Seyran Ohanyan, of course, does not say who those deputies were, and what phase of the war it was said, but we can recall a few episodes here.
First of all, let’s mention: 168.amis an analysis submitted that the militia law was adopted at the end of the 44-day period, and before its adoption after Nikol Pashinyan’s Facebook call, to say the least, frivolous, led by governors and community heads volunteer squads were formed, we repeat, the laws related to the creation of the militia had not yet been adopted at that time, and there were no corresponding deputy governors.
Can we report any legal or legal issues here? And to what extent this issue became a subject of discussion in the NA investigative committee studying the circumstances of the 44-day war, is not known. Moreover, no one knows whether this and investigative and where were the volunteer squads of law enforcement agencies deployed during the war, what combat operations did they participate in?
Recently, for example, we asked the RA Investigative Committee, among a number of other questions, where their volunteer detachment was during the 44-day period, to which sector it was sent, but they avoided this topic. And nothing that in 2020 RA Investigative Committee during the war message spread that “following the call of the RA Prime Minister, 180 volunteers were enlisted to participate in the sacred work of protecting the motherland.”
“Four platoons were formed, 2 of which, on October 28, headed by the chairman of the RA Investigative Committee, went on combat duty through the RA Armed Forces General Staff,” the Central Committee detailed.
By the way, these days we are exclusive documents հրապարակել՝ Evidence of desertion and desertion among police and prison officers during the 44-day war. And the number of deserters and those who have left their positions reaches several hundreds.
We still do not mention the political-propaganda military units and squads formed in those days, if we can say so.
Secondly, we presented separate studies today to the Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan, Mayor of Yerevan Tigran Avinyan, worked as director of National Security Service in a certain part of the war Argishti Kyaramyan and others’ role-playing.
Here it is necessary to remember the well-known counterattack operation, which was discussed in Artsakh were present Nikol Pashinyan, Former president of Artsakh Araik Harutyunyan, Jalal Harutyunyan, Argishti Kyaramyanas the director of the RA NSS, in the capacity of the director of the Artsakh NSS: Kamo Aghajanyan, as the RA NA President: Ararat Mirzoyan, in the capacity of Secretary of the Council of Artsakh: Samvel Babayan, then government deputy Hakob Simidyan and others.
It is a different matter that the former commander of the National Security Service Jalal Harutyunyan was accused of the failure of this operation, then he was acquitted, and it is nothing that after the failure of this operation, Argishti Kyaramyan was dismissed from the post of National Security Service Director on October 8, 2020.
Third, 168.amthe wrote that on the 4th day of the war, Tigran Avinyan approved a plan to install photovoltaic plants in Shushi, and days before the fall of Shushi, on November 5, the President of Artsakh, Araik Harutyunyan, on his Facebook page had reported that is in Shushi, and Tigran Avinyan was also seen in the published photos.
It’s no secret that after being released from the position of National Security Service director, during the 44-day war, Argishti Kyaramyan continued to stay in Artsakh, was in Shushi, and from there, like never before said Former RA Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, 2020 At 5:30 AM on November 5-6, he left the city of Shushi and was stationed a little below the city of Shushi, and Argishti Karamyan was also in the same car.
Moreover, on November 7, the former Minister of Defense arrived in Yerevan in the same car with Argishti Karamyan to discuss some issues related to armaments. They will know what developments happened after that. And Seyran Ohanyan in Shushi during the war had met also at that time to the Governor of Ararat Garik Sargsyan. And the fact that Seyran Ohanyan announced today from the podium of the National Assembly that the government deputies ran away, maybe he knows something.
On the other hand, in the context of the 44-day war, the government has from time to time made various accusations against him and his son, the commander of the Tsori military unit, Artur Ohanyan, the last one today. passes In the Lele Tepe case, and quite remarkably during the court hearings announcements has done that high-ranking military personnel are not held accountable for the failure of the counterattack.
And the former Minister of Defense in his speech during the discussion of the implementation of the RA government’s plan for 2025 in the National Assembly once again emphasized that during the 44-day war, the Artsakh Defense Army had a 283 km defense zone, of which “they kept 265 km for one month, until October 27, 2020”.
“The generals you mentioned fled through that area, and I believe that it is within your responsibility, because the Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces makes a decision there, and you approve it. Through your zone of responsibility, Azerbaijan has bypassed and reached the borders of Shushi, Berdzor, Berdadzor and the Republic of Armenia – the borders of Goris, Kapan, Meghri. Now you say that the generals escaped, they escaped under your leadership, go and make a decision,” Seyran Ohanyan addressed Nikol Pashinyan in the parliament.
Below this statement by the Defense Minister are some footnotes. For example, the fact that the 1st Army Corps of the RA Armed Forces is called to protect the rear of the 9th Army. On one occasion during the war, Artsrun Hovhannisyan, trying to protect Jalal Harutyunyan, in an interview had said.
“The 9th PS of the Armed Forces was completely removed from its subordination, a completely different command was created, and a different person was in charge. In other words, the 9th Infantry Division and the 1st Corps of the RA Armed Forces formed a joint southern direction, the commander of which was Lieutenant General Tiran Khachatryan. In other words, no matter how many fronts of active combat operations Jalal Harutyunyan conducted, if we add up all the kilometers, Jalal Harutyunyan, as the commander of the Defense Forces, conducted a maximum of one defensive district front battle. All accusations are populist and baseless.”
Can we say that in the case of such statements, the arrow is pointed directly at the leadership of the RA Armed Forces during the war, although there are also clear facts that in 2020 On September 27, he did not pass the defense of the 9th PS of the Defense Ministry.
On the other hand, they are not out of line with the fact that Nikol Pashinyan, as the supreme commander, is responsible for what happened, that Onik Gasparyan, who was the head of the General Staff, was subjected to him. Another question is: how legal was it, since it was announced in RA? martial law.
But if we talk about the responsibility of the units of the RA Armed Forces, then we should not forget that the 2nd Army Corps of the RA Armed Forces, which was handed over to Azerbaijan by the November 9 document, has a big contribution to keeping Karvachar. But this does not prevent Pashinyan from putting all the responsibility for the defeat of 2020 on the army. And that is why today Seyran Ohanyan demanded from Pashinyan to publish the 44-day report.
“Why don’t you publish the report of the 44-day war? The people demand it, the relatives of the missing also demand it. Because you put the main emphasis on the army, I asked the Chairman of the Investigative Committee under your authority and the General Prosecutor: please tell me how many of the initiated criminal cases refer to the army and how many to other institutions. But they avoided… Because the war is not conducted by the army, which you did not support, but by the state. Now you ask them a question: is the army alone responsible for this, or are the others responsible?
Later, Pashinyan answered Seyran Ohanyan’s last demand from the NA podium.
“Now, the report of the investigative commission has arrived… let’s say, isn’t it clear to you that it will also be published in some way,” he said, without referring to the other episode questions related to the 44-day war before that.
So, it is not excluded that Pashinyan will make some parts of the report public at a politically advantageous moment. At the moment, the political interests demand to display the new weapons acquired after 2022, and the authorities do not even hide that this will be done on May 28 in the Republic Square only to get votes and not to let the opposition forces into the parliament. In other words, the army has become a political tool, and at best a backup security player and nothing more.
As for whether the military leadership during the 44-day war will join Seyran Ohanyan’s demand that the report of the 44-day war be published in its entirety, one can speculate. Although Onik Gasparyan and Davit Tonoyan should also demand that the full transcripts of the SC sessions of September 30 and October 19, 2020 be made public, in the end, the authorities declassified some parts of the session of September 30 that were taken out of context. Will they demand, in the end, here, first of all, it is a question of their and the army’s reputation, and not to answer later for what they are not responsible for?

If you have brought “peace”, why are you threatening war?
April 17, 2026
Edgar Ghazaryan and Davit Sargsyan of the “Erku front” podcast in the next edition, they discuss the regular meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani so-called “civil societies”, Baku’s new ultimatums to Armenia, the hopeless hostage-taking of Artsakh’s military and political leaders, and also the obsession of threatening their own people with a new war.

Pashinyan confessed to the crime
April 17, 2026
“Under the conditions of today’s system, we will never have a sense of fairness and justice, because the judicial and justice systems in RA generally have no organic connection with the highest source of power, the people. The issue should be resolved by adopting a new Constitution in the near future”, the other day announced Nikol Pashinyan inventing another artificial justification for changing the Constitution.
He once again spoke at length about the fact that the current RA Constitution does not express the will of the people and “does not have an organic connection with the highest source of power”.
“In this case, do whatever you want, there will be no sense of fairness and justice, because the Constitution should be an expression of the free will of the people, and we must admit that we do not have such a Constitution and, unfortunately, we never had it,” he said.
Let’s assume that Nikol Pashinyan is not manipulating because of habit and inability to disobey Azerbaijan’s demand, but he is correct in saying that the Constitution has no organic connection with the people. In other words, according to his logic and his favorite vocabulary, it has something to do with criminal oligarchy, robbery, forgery. In that case, it turns out that the revolution that brought tragedies to itself, the government, Armenia and the Armenian people, is not “velvet, non-violent, popular”, as has been heard for 8 years, but criminal-oligarchic, looting and falsified.
After 2018, he has been bragging to the world that he came to power only and exclusively through the constitutional way, that his seizure of power is more constitutional than the idea of the constitution itself. Now it turns out that for 8 years he has been in power in Armenia with a Constitution that has no organic connection with the people. Maybe that is also why he established an organic connection with the first Azerbaijani demand and the first Azerbaijani interest, naming it “Peace”.
The reality is that all RA Constitutions, including the current one, with many problems, ensured the normal and safe life of the people in the homeland that is several thousand square kilometers larger than today. It was an unspoken but highly organic connection – the source of power – between the people and the Constitution. Nikol Pashinyan, however, has turned the source of power into a fountain, a fountain, in memory of the former Armenia and perpetuating his own power. Inorganic, like his own walking statue in his own birthplace.
In the upcoming elections, the people who are the source of power in a broad sense have one thing to do: either confirm the consolidation of their own country, its past and future with the date of 2018-2026, or form a new government in a way that seems impossible at the moment, with the prospect of stopping the shame of the government that brought Armenia to this state.

RFE/RL – U.S., Armenian Diplomats Discuss Religious Freedom
The U.S. State Department’s top official dealing with human rights visited the Armenian Embassy in Washington on Thursday to discuss a range of issues, including religious freedom in Armenia.
In a short statement, the embassy said Armenian Ambassador Narek Mkrtchian “emphasized the importance of U.S. support for strengthening democratic institutions” in his country when he hosted Riley Barnes, the U.S. assistant secretary of state for democracy, human rights and labor.
It said the meeting focused on the planned opening of a U.S.-administered transit corridor through Armenia as well as “hybrid threats, countering disinformation, and a number of issues related to religious freedom.” It did not elaborate on those issues.
“The interlocutors reaffirmed their readiness to deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest,” added the statement.
The State Department issued no readouts of Barnes’s meeting with Mkrtchian as of Friday.
It was thus not clear whether they touched upon Prime Minister Nikol Pashuinian’s nearly yearlong attempts to depose the supreme head of the Armenia Apostolic Church, Catholicos Garegin II. Armenian opposition figures and other critics of Pashinian maintain that his campaign, which has been companied by arrests of senior clergymen, violates Armenia’s constitution guaranteeing the church’s separation from the state.
Two Western religious rights groups echoed these claims in February. One of them, the Vienna-based the Forum for Religious Freedom Europe, spoke of “grave threats to freedom of religion or belief” in Armenia. U.S. officials have not publicly commented on Pashinian’s campaign.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance lavished praise on the Armenian premier and endorsed him ahead of Armenia’s June 7 parliamentary elections when he visited Yerevan in February. Vance said Pashinian’s reelection is essential for the launch of the transit arrangement to be named after U.S. President Donald Trump.

Karapetian’s House Arrest Extended
- Naira Bulghadarian
A court in Yerevan extended billionaire Samvel Karapetian’s house arrest by three months on Friday, preventing his in-person participation in campaigning for Armenia’s upcoming parliamentary elections in which his opposition movement is expected to be a key player.
The decision demanded by prosecutors was announced during a second court hearing in Karapetian’s high-profile trial that began on Wednesday nearly ten months after his arrest.
The hearing came as hundreds of his supporters rallied outside the court building, chanting “Samvel Prime Minister!” and “Freedom!” Some of them jostled with riot police at one point. At least 17 protesters were detained as a result.
As he was escorted out of the courtroom, Karapetian, who was allowed by the court to give interviews to media, claimed the extension of his house arrest shows that the Armenian authorities are “afraid” of him. Speaking to journalists, he also said he is fully confident about his Strong Armenia party’s victory in the elections scheduled for June 7.
Strong Armenia is now regarded as Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian’s number one opposition challenger. Fourteen more members and supporters of the party were arrested on Thursday on vote buying charges rejected by Karapetian’s associates as politically motivated. They claimed that the authorities may be preparing the ground for the party’s disqualification from the polls.
Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly warned Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian against such a ban on this or other “pro-Russian” opposition groups during their April 1 talks in Moscow. Karapetian has mostly lived in Russia since the early 1990s, making a fortune there estimated by the Forbes magazine at over $4 billion.
The tycoon on Wednesday dismissed Pashinian allies’ implicit claims that he is acting on the Kremlin’s orders.
“Russia only guides Pashinian,” he said. “I am guided by the Armenian people.”
Karapetian was arrested last June hours after condemning Pashinian’s attempts to depose the top clergy of the Armenian Apostolic Church and vowing to defend it “in our way.” The statement provoked a series of furious social media posts by Pashinian, who pledged to “deactivate” him.
Karapetian was initially accused of calling for a violent overthrow of the government. Law-enforcement authorities also charged him with tax evasion, fraud and money laundering in July after he announced plans to challenge Pashinian in the June 2026 elections. He strongly denies all charges.
The 60-year-old had never showed an interest in political activities before his arrest. He said on Wednesday that the “injustices” against the church and himself forced him to enter Armenian politics.

Armenian Government In No Rush To Disclose New Constitution Draft
- Gayane Saribekian
Armenia’s government appears to be reluctant to publicize before the June 7 parliamentary elections its draft of a new Armenian constitution demanded by Azerbaijan.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian has pledged to try to enact the kind of constitutional change that Azerbaijan has set as a necessary condition for ending the conflict with Armenia. Baku specifically objects to a preamble to the current constitution referring to a 1990 Armenian declaration of independence, which in turn cites a 1989 unification act adopted by the legislative bodies of Soviet Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
It has made clear that it will not sign an Armenian-Azerbaijani peace treaty, initialed last August, unless Yerevan removes the reference. The only legal way to do that is to adopt a new constitution through a referendum.
Justice Minister Srbuhi Galian said earlier this year that the new constitution drafted by her ministry will be made public in March. That has still not happened.
Galian told reporters on Friday that the draft is “not yet ready publication.” She gave no clear reason for the delay or set any dates for the document’s disclosure.
Galian also declined to say whether the 1990 declaration is referenced in the draft. Pashinian again spoke out against such reference last month. He continued to deny bowing to yet another Azerbaijani demand. Some observers say he is reluctant to publish the draft now in order not to give the Armenian opposition more ammunition in the run-up to the showdown elections.
The country’s leading opposition groups have pledged to scuttle the change of the constitution sought by Pashinian. They say that his continuing unilateral concessions only encourage Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to make more demands on Armenia and will not bring real peace.

Pashinian Argues Against Opposition Presence In Next Armenian Parliament
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian said on Friday that the three opposition groups widely regarded as his main election challengers must win no seats in Armenia’s next parliament that will be elected on June 7.
“This is becoming an increasingly realistic political objective with each passing day,” Pashinian told the outgoing National Assembly.
“Whoever thinks that these three political forces could enter the parliament shows disrespect [for voters,]” he said.
Pashinian accused former President Robert Kocharian’s Hayastan alliance, billionaire Samvel Karapetian’s Strong Armenia party and the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) led by another wealthy businessman, Gagik Tsarukian, of having insulted the electorate with their public statements. He said he therefore “cannot believe” that many Armenians will vote for them in the upcoming elections.
The remarks contrasted with statements made by senior members of Pashinian’s Civil Contract party in March and February this year. In a series of social media posts, they signaled concerns that the three opposition forces could collectively win a majority in the next parliament and thus oust Pashinian. They said at the same time that the country’s leadership “will not allow” such an outcome, stoking media speculation that at least some of the opposition heavyweights could be barred from the June 7 elections.
Pashinian has stepped up attacks on Strong Armenia, Hayastan and the BHK since then. In his latest speech on the parliament floor, he again branded them as a “three-headed party of war” keen to reignite Armenia’s conflict with Azerbaijan. Opposition leaders say he is resorting to scaremongering in a desperate bid to avoid losing power.
The speech came at the end of a three-day parliament debate on the current Armenian government’s execution of its five-year policy program adopted following the last general elections held in 2021. Opposition lawmakers again accused Pashinian and his party of failing to deliver on their main 2021 campaign promises. They also continued to blame the premier for the 2020 war with Azerbaijan, Baku’s subsequent recapture of Nagorno-Karabakh and grave security challenges facing Armenia.
“You are the one who brought war, you are the one who brought disasters, you are the one who brought losses, and you will continue to bring them if you remain in power,” one of them, Hayastan’s Artsvik Minasian, charged.

RFE/RL – Pro-Pashinian Bishop Accused Of Assault
- Susan Badalian
An Armenian deacon on Friday claimed to have been physically attacked by a bishop who has joined Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian in demanding Catholicos Garegin II’s resignation.
The long-serving clergyman, Gegham Avetisian, said Bishop Anushavan Zhamkochian repeatedly hit him right after a recent Easter Eve service in Yerevan’s St. Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral.
“I don’t know if that can be considered a beating, but he dealt me several blows,” Avetisian told RFE/RL’s Armenian Service.
He said he is still taking medication to cope with what he described as mental pain caused by the April 4 incident.
Zhamkochian, who oversees the country’s largest cathedral, denied assaulting Avetisian. He said he only reprimanded the latter over “proper performance of a deacon’s duties” after the service led by Archimandrite Poghos Vardapetian.
Vardapetian said that during the service the bishop ordered the deacon to descend from the cathedral’s altar and stop participating in the ceremony for unknown reasons.
“I called [Avetisian] and wondered if there is a [reason for such an order,]” Vardapetian told RFE/RL’s Armenian Service. “He said no. I therefore said, ‘Stay on and continue your ministry so that the liturgical service does not suffer.’”
Zhamkochian and Avetisian had a one-on-one meeting in an adjacent room after the service, Vardapetian said. He described the deacon as a “very humble, obedient and servile person devoted to the church.”
Avetisian has served as a deacon for 23 years and remains loyal to Garegin. By contrast, Zhamkochian was among about a dozen senior clergymen who broke ranks last November to join Pashinian’s controversial campaign against the supreme head of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
One of them, the California-based Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, effectively pledged renewed allegiance to Garegin in February. He signed a joint statement by over two dozen bishops that condemned Armenia’s authorities for their “unfounded prosecution” of the Catholicos. Another renegade bishop, Abraham Mkrtchian, retired from the church one month later with Garegin’s permission requested by him.
Pashinian began his campaign last May right after Garegin accused Azerbaijan of committing ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh and illegally occupying Armenian border areas during an international conference in Switzerland.

They call every day and ask for help to fix my head. Nar
April 17, 2026
Many people call the members of the “Strong Armenia” party and ask for help. Narek Karapetyan, a member of the party’s council, said this in a conversation with journalists, referring to the recordings and arrests with the alleged participation of their party and supporters.
“Directed and in a special way, every day they call the members of our movement and ask for help. It is done so that someone says: I will think about it, and they make something in their head. Mrs. Ghumashyan spoke with a 104-year-old woman, a veteran of the Second World War. He has been taking care of that woman’s birthdays and other occasions for 5 years now,” said Karapetyan.
He also emphasized that the law enforcement officers have already interrogated the 104-year-old woman in the framework of the case.
