New Book About Fate Of Armenian Martyrs

NEW BOOK ABOUT FATE OF ARMENIAN MARTYRS

29 March 05

Recently, the Writers’ Union of Armenia organized the presentation of
Argam Ayvazyan’s “Nakhijevan in the Fire Circle of Battles in 1905 and
1918-19” book. The author dwells on the massacres committed by the
Tatar-Turks against the Armenians of the historical Armenian provinces
that were included in the structure of the present Nakhijevan in
1905-1918-19.

Since 1965, Argam Ayvazyan has been engaged in researching the
historical-architectural heritage of Nakhijevan. This is the 15th work
of the author. The book consists of two large chapters that, according
to the author, touch upon many new sources, documents and memoirs.

Besides, the book includes over 100 photos picturing the former and
current situations of the Armenian dwelling places of Nakhijevan, maps
that depict the Armenian historical monuments.

Hakob Petrosian, representative of “Yerkir ev Mshakujt” (Country and
the Culture) International NGO, closely connecting the author’s name
with Nakhijevan, represented his book and emphasized the importance of
such works. He said that the time will come and such book will become
a land.

UPI hears … democratic demonstrators scampering around Bishkek

UPI hears…

Those pesky democratic demonstrators scampering around Kyrgyzstan’s
capital, Bishkek, have disrupted joint military exercises between
Russia and several ex-Soviet republics, which were due to take place
in Kyrgyzstan next week. The exercises accordingly have been
postponed for a week to April 2 and moved to neighboring Tajikistan.
The exercises were due to take place on March 29 in Kyrgyzstan
between the members of a collective security cooperation treaty that
was signed in 1992 by Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan,
Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Unlike previous revolutions in other
former Soviet states, the Kyrgyz revolution was primarily economic,
with protestors furious about the Akayev’s administration inability
to improve the national economy. According to official statistics, 82
percent of Kyrgyz families live below the poverty line, and nearly 40
percent of the country’s 5 million inhabitants subsist on less than
$3 per month.

Lenmarker’s Report’s Free From Atkinson’s Principles

LENMARKER’S REPORT’S FREE FROM ATKINSON’S PRINCIPLES

Azat Artsakh – Nagorno Karabakh Republic [NKR]
28 March 05

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly reporter on Nagorno Karabakh conflict
confirmed the fact that the question to be settled first is that of
the status of Nagorno Karabakh. The rest – territories, refugees,
etc. – are derivative. The draft report on Nagorno Karabakh by Goran
Lenmarker states that without the settlement of the problem of status
the rest will be impossible to solve. Recently the delegates of
Armenia and Azerbaijan took part in the discussion of the Karabakh
conflict undertaken by G. Lenmarker at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly
in Brussels. Later the vice speaker of the National Assembly of
Armenia Vahan Hovhannissian and Member of Parliament Samvel Nikoyan
told the journalists that despite the efforts of the Azerbaijani
delegation the draft report by Goran Lenmarker to be presented to the
OSCE Parliamentary Assembly did not contain the principles of
Atkinson’s report so dear to the Azerbaijanis. What is more, according
to NA vice speaker V. Hovhannissian, Lenmarker’s report is quite
balanced, which caused anxiety among their Azerbaijani colleagues.
According to the member of the Armenian delegation Samvel Nikoyan,
although throughout the negotiations and meetings the Azerbaijani side
attempted to withdraw the issue of Nagorno Karabakh from the OSCE,
they failed because the OSCE realizes that the mandate for settlement
of the NKR problem belongs to the OSCE only.

Lenmarker’s report will be ready in July and will be presented at the
OSCE Parliamentary Assembly meeting in Washington. However, before the
document will be sent out to the parties in order for them to put
forward suggestions and propose changes. Of course, it is still too
early to make conclusions on the final variant of the report but it
should not be excluded either that heated arguments are awaiting the
adoption of the report by the OSCE PA. Nevertheless, it can be stated
with careful optimism that the principles of Atkinson’s report will
not underlie Lenmarker’s report. Moreover, as the NA vice speaker
stated, the report will first of all maintain the necessity of
clarifying the status of Nagorno Karabakh. However, before the
adoption of the report, as it was mentioned already, hot struggle
between the conflict parties is expected. Most probably, in the
expected struggle Azerbaijan will get the support of the Turkish,
maybe also Georgian and Moldavian delegations. Armenia also has its
leverages for counteraction about which V. Hovhannissian did not give
any information for security reasons. The members of the Armenian
delegation vowed to do their best to prevent unfavourable
developments. Another report similar to the Atkinson’ s would greatly
complicate the situation. `If the first can be overlooked, the second
will already be difficult to overlook,’ noticed Vahan Hovhannissian.

ARMENIAN SINGERS REFUSED TO APPEAR AT THE SAME STAGE WITH PHILIP
KIRKOROV

28.03.2005 04:09

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The protestors against the upcoming concert of
Russian star Philip Kirkorov are ready to take drastic steps in case
the arrangers do not reverse the decision on conduction the concerts,
head of Nikol Abgalian students’ union of the ARFD Youth branch
Ishkhan Saghatelian stated in a conversation with PanARMENIAN.Net
reporter. To remind, March 24 about 30 youth organizations sent a
letter to the concert arrangers. The authors of the letter called to
cancel the concerts. They reminded of Kirkorov’s anti-Armenian,
moreover pro-Turkish position. Besides, he has recently outraged an
Armenian journalist and spoke scorn of her origin. In Saghatelian’s
words, if they do not get a response from the Manukian JCSC or if the
response is negative they will immediately proceed to action. When
asked what kind of action it will be, Ishkhan Saghatelian said, `It
will be a surprise.’ He also added that the rate of the ticket sale
has considerably decreased. When commenting on Kirkorov’s statement
that Bulgaria was under the Armenian for a long time he said that it
is one more reason due to which Armenians should prevent the
conduction of the concert. He stressed that not only the youth
organizations but also a number of cultural workers, whom he
preferred not to name, hold the same opinion. It should be noted that
Armenian singers Andre and Shushan Petrosian refused to appear at the
same stage with Philip Kirkorov and expressed readiness to assist the
protesters.

Kirkorov convinced that Bulgaria was under long time Armenian yoke

PHILIP KIRKOROV CONVINCED THAT BULGARIA WAS UNDER ARMENIAN YOKE FOR
LONG TIME

28.03.2005 03:33

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Philip Kirkorov is convinced that Bulgaria was
under the Armenian yoke for a long time. He told about it during one
of the interviews when answering the question why his father sings
Armenian songs, IA Regnum reports. The singer is sure that due to
this very reason a lot of Bulgarians accustomed themselves to the
Armenian language and culture. Let us remind that on the occasion of
Day of Motherhood and Beauty Philip Kirkorov has been invited to
Yerevan to give a couple of concerts. In this view about 30 youth
organizations sent a letter to the concert arrangers. The authors of
the letter called to cancel the concert. They reminded of Kirkorov’s
anti-Armenian, moreover pro-Turkish position. Besides, he has
recently outraged an Armenian journalist and spoke scorn of her
origin. The protest initiators consider that the invitation of
pro-Turkish singer to Armenia on the threshold of the 90-th
anniversary of the Armenian Genocide is immoral. The profit of the
concert is recommensurable with moral values. The representatives of
the youth organizations noted that if the concerts are not cancelled
they will undertake measures to prevent them.

SETTLEMENT CAN BE EXPECTED IN NEAR FUTURE

28.03.2005 01:41

and Azerbaijan on Nagorno Karabakh and no considerable progress can
be expected in the near future, Garnik Isagulian, the adviser on

the conflict within the context of its territorial integrity while
Armenia is insisting on Karabakh’s independence. `Let us not forget

Karabakh’s security’, G. Isagulian said. The recurrent meeting of the
