Iran-MPs-Angelika Beer

The Chairperson for the Delegation of Relations with Iran in the
European Parliament Angelika Beer conferred with several religious
minorities MPs here on Sunday.

In the meeting, Robert Beglarian, the MP representing southern
Iran’s Armenians pointed to the two articles in Iran’s Constitution
(13 and 84), saying that five religious minorities MPs are active in
the Majlis.

Religious minorities in Iran enjoy religious and social freedom and
participate in social and economic activities, he added.

Assyrian and Chaldenian MP Younaten Bet-Kolia referred to the several
positive judicial developments regarding minorities, saying they are
representing the society as a whole and minorities enjoy freedom,
security and welfare.

Other religious minorities MPs Mouris Mo’tamed and Kourosh Niknam,
also outlined the proper co-existence between Muslims and minorities.

The representatives expressed dissatisfaction over the issuance of
several resolutions in the European Parliament (EP) against Iran,
calling on officials to adopt serious measures to pursue the case of
members of the terrorist Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO).

Angelika Beer, for her part expressed gratitude over her negotiations
with Iran’s parliamentary and political officials, adding that the
EP assesses MKO as a terrorist group.

ANKARA: Official Documents Belie the Armenians

Official Documents Belie the Armenians
The New Anatolian / Ankara

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan sends a letter to Armenian
President Robert Kocharian, officially conveying Turkey’s desire to set
up a commission to investigate the Armenian genocide claims together.

While the Armenians have tried to attract the world’s attention with
their claims of a so-called Armenian genocide for years, official
documents show that between the years 1910 and 1922, Armenian gangs
massacred over half a million Turks in Anatolia.

“We’re facing our history,” said Prime Ministry State Archives General
Director Yusuf Sarinay. “When we face our history, we come across
our own losses and grievances. As we don’t mourn, everyone thinks
that they can get everything easily from Turkey. Within Anatolia,
523,955 Turks were massacred by Armenian gangs. Westerners were
ultimately responsible for much of this. Europe used Armenians as a
tool in Turkey’s politics. Both Armenians and Turks suffered because
of this. Europe should face itself also.”

1915 was the result

Sarinay argued that everyone has focused on a single point in
history, 1915, which relates to the so-called Armenian genocide,
saying, “The problem didn’t begin at that date. Rather, 1915 was the
result.” Sarinay stated that powerful Western states tried to interfere
with the internal affairs of the Ottoman Empire by abusing the Armenian
issue from as far back as 1878. He said that the Ottoman Empire had
put up with the situation patiently until the beginning of World War I.

“The decision to relocate the Armenians wasn’t taken to prevent a
possible revolt or any cooperation with other countries, like the
Armenian diaspora claims, rather it was taken due to prevent a de
facto revolt and cooperation with foreign countries,” he explained.

Sarinay said that the Armenian gangs massacred hundreds of thousands
of Turks in Anatolia. This appallingly large number in many massacres,
gathering several villages together exterminated in one go by Armenian
gangs, are shown by the documents, he argued. Sarinay stated that every
massacre was recorded, and that these records are comprised of letters
and reports prepared by foreign observers and local administrators
of the Istanbul government.

Erdogan sends letter to Kocharian

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent a letter to Armenian President
Robert Kocharian, officially conveying Turkey’s message to set up a
commission to study the genocide claims, the Turkish Foreign Ministry
said in a statement over the weekend.

The letter to Kocharian stated that the two countries should
investigate the Armenian genocide claims together. He proposed
the establishment of a joint commission to investigate the Armenian
genocide claims, which he said would serve to bring the two countries
closer in the future.

Hundreds of Armenians Gathered in Michigan Protesting Turkey

Journal of Turkish Weekly
April 18 2005

Dearborn, Michigan, U.S., (JTW) Hundreds of Armenians gathered
in remembrance of the 1915 events in Dearborn, U.S. The Armenian
demonstration was organized by the Armenian diaspora organizations
which accuse Ottomans of killing many Armenians during the First World
War. Some Armenians even claim that the Turks committed a ‘genocide’
against the Armenians.

Turkey has rejected the genocide claim and says Armenians were killed
in civil unrest during the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. Turkey
also argues that more than 523,000 Turkish people were killed by the
Armenian nationalists at that period. Similarly, the United States
and the United Kingdom accepts the tragedy Armenians and Turks faced
during the war years, yet both of them refuse to name the events as
‘genocide’.

Last week Turkish prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish Granda
National Parliement (TBMM) called Armenians to establish a joint
commission to discuss the historical disputes, yet Armenian side
immediately rejected the offer.

Beirut – Lebanon

More than 500 orphans spend a memorable day at Haigazian University.

April 18, 2005 – Beirut – If anyone wanted to see the future of
Lebanon- to experience the best of what this country can be- then
that person should have been at the Orphan’s Fair organized by the
Desert Streams club, on Saturday, April 16, 2005.

Hundreds of happy children, ranging from 5 to 12 years old, danced,
sang, ate, ran around, laughed, burst balloons, received gifts
and played in the playground of the Armenian Evangelical College,
adjacent to Haigazian University.

David, 7, said he had fun, and it’s his third year attending this
event. Maya, 10, enjoyed the games and the good food.

On Saturday the 16 th of April 2005, for the third consecutive year,
and with a great success, Desert Streams, Haigazian University’s
humanitarian club, invited around 500 orphans and underprivileged
children for a big kermes at the Armenian Evangelical college, next
to the university.

The purpose of the Club is to help needy children and institutions
through students’ efforts.

“We have been working for this event for more than two months, with
many sub- committees, and with more than hundred student volunteers”
said Sima Tchakhchakhian, President of the Club, a junior Biology
student at the university.

Part of the reason for organizing the day was to make people aware of
the number of orphanages in Lebanon. This is why as many orphanages
as possible from a variety of ethnic and religious backgrounds were
invited to the event, such as Cedar Home, Hasan Khaled Institution,
The National Institution of Social Care and Vocational Training,
Jinishian and Trad

The event was mainly paid for by the Student Club’s budget, and by
a few sponsors who, for instance, provided the food and beverages.

“One of the main difficulties was in finding sponsors to cover costs”
said Antranik Dakessian, Director of Student Life at Haigazian.

The event was beneficial to both children and Haigazian students.

The kids clearly enjoyed the change of scenery and the creative games
they played. The event also included a stage with a DJ, and many of
the children volunteered to sing on stage.

“It’s a good opportunity for them to meet children from other
orphanages, and to get out of their routine and sometimes unpleasant
atmosphere of their day- to- day life; it gives them more confidence”
considered Alain Keyrouz, Assistant Director of Student Life.

On another hand, these kinds of initiatives are very important for
students, as the experience provides them with a balanced education.

“This activity will enrich Haigazian students, enabling them to
acquire managerial skills, in terms of organization, coordination,
and follow-up” noted Mira Yardemian, Director of Public Relations of
the University.

In the afternoon, President Haidostian walked among the children,
sharing their joy and fun. He considered that such an activity goes
in line with the motto of the University: Truth, Freedom, and Service.

“The best way of promoting our motto, is in actualizing it” Haidostian
stated.

Baku’s Confidence In Impunity – Main Reason For Cease-Fire Violation

BAKU’S CONFIDENCE IN IMPUNITY ~V MAIN REASON FOR CEASE-FIRE VIOLATIONS BY AZERI SIDE

Pan Armenian News
18.04.2005 03:42

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ As the Azeri party is still speaking out with
militaristic statements it is quite clear that the statement by
the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs was addressed to Azerbaijan, Press
Secretary of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA)Hamlet
Gasparian stated, RA MFA press service reports. “At the same time the
cautiousness of the Co-Chairs, who did not name the initiator of the
violations, will hardly contribute to the cease-fire preservation”,
H. Gasparian noted. In his words, in a letter addressed to the FMs
of the Minsk Group and the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Armenia explains
that the main reasons for the cease-fire violations is Azerbaijan’s
confidence in its impunity. “All know that Azeris violate the
cease-fire regime. Nevertheless no one condemns their actions, what
results in repeated violations”, the MFA Press Secretary added. “If
earlier it was not always clear, who was the first open fire, today it
is obvious that the Azeri are trying to advance their positions and
change the status quo. Thus, we are convinced that a common call to
the preservation of the cease-fire regime will do no good. Moreover,
we hope that the Co-Chairs and those, who are interested in peace
and stability in the region, will resort to more definite steps”,
H. Gasparian resumed.
