RA Defense Minister on Karabakh Issue: Living without
Belief and Hope Impossible
01.09.2006 14:44 GMT+04:00
/PanARMENIAN.Net/ `It’s good when one has hope and it’s good when this
hope is reasonably limited,’ Armenian Defense Minister Serge Sargsyan
told journalists September 1 in the military high school after Monte
Melkonyan when commenting on the process of the Nagorno Karabakh
conflict settlement. In his words, it’s impossible to live without
belief and hope, but one should not have big expectations either,
since they may not come true and it may turn tragic.
When touching upon the intention of the chairman of the Caucasus
Muslims Board, Sheik-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade to proclaim
jihad against Armenia, the Minister remarked that `the Sheik has no
connection with the Azeri authorities.’ `Will it have an impact on the
process? Actually he did not say anything precise. He said only that
if the talks do not lead to a fair outcome he will proclaim jihad.
Thus, nothing has happened yet,’ Sargsyan said, reported IA Regnum.

Armenia Not Going to Sent Peacekeepers to Lebanon
01.09.2006 14:55 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Presently Armenia is not going to sent peacekeepers
in the Lebanon-Israel conflict zone, RA President’s Spokesman Victor
Soghomonyan said. `Armenia is not going to sent a peacekeeping
contingent to the conflict zone; moreover the U.N. has not determined
the mandate of the peacekeeping forces yet,’ he
underscored. Soghomonyan also said that taking into account the small
number the Armenian peacekeepers, they cannot play a decisive role in
the conflict settlement.
`At that same time when considering the possibility of sending
peacekeepers to the conflict zone the republic leadership cannot
overlook the interests of the Armenian community of
Lebanon. Involvement of Armenian peacekeepers in any opposition can
cause problems for the Armenians living in Lebanon,’ the RA
President’s Spokesman said, reported newsarmenia.ru.

Documents on Karabakh Settlement to Be Published Sooner or Later
01.09.2006 15:01 GMT+04:00
/PanARMENIAN.Net/ `The settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict is
a special process where satisfaction with indeterminate outcomes is
impossible. If there is no result, so the possibility of the
settlement has not been exhausted,’ RA President’s Spokesman Victor
Soghomonyan told journalists. In his words, if the sides reach an
agreement till the yearend, it will mean that the possibility was
completely used. At the same time Soghomonyan pointed out to
non-constructive and unreal statements on Karabakh conflict by
official Baku.
According to Soghomonyan, the publication of the settlement principles
was incomplete and did not reflect the whole process. `The Armenian
side confirms readiness to publish all the documents is case of
partial publication of the settlement principles in future,’ he said
adding that then `everyone will see the contents of the talks and the
side preventing the settlement.’
In Soghomonyan’s opinion these documents will be published sooner or
later, since with time secret documents become the property of the
publics. `History will sort things out,’ he underscored, reported

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The possibility of the Kocharian-Aliyev meeting on
the Nagorno Karabakh conflict peaceful settlement till the end of 2006
is not ruled out,’ RA President’s Spokesman Victor Soghomonyan
said. `We should not exclude the possibility of the presidential
meeting till the end of the current year, but it’s premature to speak
of it now,’ he said.
Victor Soghomonyan reminded that the other day the sides achieved
agreement on the meeting of Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian
and Azeri FM Elmar Mammadyarov. In his words, during the forthcoming
meeting the parties will try to reach consent on the unsettled
issues. `The meeting will lay the foundation for the future

Matthew Bryza Offers `Road Map’ for Karabakh
01.09.2006 15:08 GMT+04:00
/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The achievements in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict
settlement depend on the proposals by the Armenian and Azerbaijani
Presidents, OSCE Minsk Group U.S. Co-chair Matthew Bryza stated.
`I suppose the sides will compromise. It’s the only way of settlement
because the Karabakh problem cannot be resolved by force. The
principles proposed by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs remain on the
bargaining table and this plan can be called a `road map’. These are
our best proposals,’ Bryza underscored, reported ANS TV channel.

concerts in Yerevan, one today and the other on
September 2 and will give a concert for residents of
Armenia’s second largest town of Gyumri on September

Music experts say more people are becoming

that celebrate many kinds of music. Their first
concert was presented in New York City in the summer

A tenor is the highest natural adult male singing
voice. Three African-American singers perform as Three

Defense Minister Lashes Out at Party Fellow for Lack of Discipline

DEFENSE MINISTER LASHES OUT AT PARTY FELLOW FOR LACK
OF DISCIPLINE

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS: “A political
party is not a pack of wolves and is not obliged to
hasten and defend a party member on every occasion,’
Armenian defense minister Serzh Sarkisian retaliated
to a question why the governing board of his
Republican Party urged its members not to defend a
party member who is contesting the post of a Yerevan
district prefect in elections scheduled for October
28.
The governing board of the party by a vote of 61
against 3 decided yesterday not to defend Arman
Sahakian, a party member. The board also called on its
members warning they would be subjected to
disciplinary punishment if defy the decision. Arman
Sahakian, a former deputy Yerevan mayor, is the son of
Galust Sahakian, who is head of the Republican Party’s
parliament faction.
Sarkisian, who joined the party recently and was
elected chairman of its governing board, argued today
that every party member must understand that the party
has its own, independent interests, there are party
regulations and discipline. ‘If he (Arman Sahakian)
decided all alone without consulting his party, even
ignoring his party, to run for the post why should the
party defend him?,” Sarkisian said adding he had no
intention at all now to defend Sahakian.
The influential defense minister also shrugged off
persistent rumors accusing nature protection minister
Vartan Ayvazian of demanding a $ 3 million bribe from
a US-based mining company, describing these rumors ‘
irresponsible.” Sarkisian argued later it may emerge
that these accusations were simply a slander.
Sarkisian was also asked about the Prosperous
Armenia party of Gagik Tsarukian, seen as the main
rival of the Republican party in 2007 parliamentary
elections, but the minister shrugged off such
speculations saying only the outcome of polls can show
the real potential of any party.

HHK Refuses to Support Candidacy of Its Member’s Son

HHK REFUSES TO SUPPORT CANDIDACY OF ITS MEMBER’S SON
The session of the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) decided yesterday
not to support the candidacy of Arman Sahakyan, son of HHK block
leader Galust Sahakyan, during the elections of Ajapniak community
head. `The party has no obligations to support its members in
everything,’ Serz Sargsyan, HHK board chairman said.
Earlier Galust Sahakyan made statements that not only HHK but also all
political forces are going to support Arman Sahakyan’s candidacy. It
may be inferred that HHK board undergoes disagreements among its
members, which will blow out in time. HHK has reached no decision to
support anyone’s candidacy, Sargsyan continues, also saying, `If the
party board decides to support anyone’s candidacy, you will be
definitely informed.’ /Panorama.am/
