Armenian Ambassador to Uruguay Mariam Gevorgyan has met with Gabriela Verde, Vice Minister for Education and Culture and the current caretaker minister.

The embassy said in a press release that the parties discussed the progress of programs being implemented between the two countries in the fields of education and culture, as well as prospects for the further development of bilateral cooperation.

The Armenian resort town of Tsaghkadzor will host matches of the Europe zone Group IV of the 2026 Davis Cup from June 15–21.

The press service of the Armenia men’s national tennis team said that the national teams of Albania, Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Malta, and San Marino will arrive in Armenia for the tournament.

The composition of the Armenian Davis Cup team for this year’s event will be published later.

The 2026 Davis Cup is the 114th edition of the Davis Cup, a tournament between national teams in men’s tennis. 

The Davis Cup was last held in Armenia in 2008.

The tournament will be held at the Main Sports Complex of Tsaghkadzor.

In 2025, the construction and renovation of 504.5 kilometers of roads funded by the state budget was completed, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan said on Wednesday.

“During 2025, with funds from the state budget, a total of 504.5 kilometers of roads were built, reconstructed, renovated, and overhauled in Armenia, of which 135 kilometers are interstate roads, around 200 kilometers are republican roads, and approximately 170 kilometers are provincial roads,” Khudatyan said at a parliamentary committee hearing on his ministry’s 2025 performance report under the 2021–2026 government action plan.

He added that the section of the North-South road corridor from Ashtarak to Gyumri is now fully completed, and an opening ceremony will be held there soon. According to the minister, this road is of vital importance for Armenia. Construction works on this section were fully completed last year.

Referring to another section of the North-South corridor, from Kajaran to Agarak, which is 32 kilometers long, Khudatyan said that active construction work is ongoing. Two planned tunnels for this section have already been excavated. In addition, 15 bridges are planned, with work on 14 of them currently underway.

In a few days, Armenia will launch the second program to extend the operating life of its Metsamor nuclear power plant by an additional 10 years, until 2036, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan said on Wednesday.

The plant’s lifespan was previously extended by 10 years in 2016, until 2026.

“In just a few days, the second extension program will begin, which will extend the plant’s operating life by an additional 10 years. A budgetary loan of 63.2 billion AMD has been allocated from the state budget to the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant,” Khudatyan said at a parliamentary committee hearing on his ministry’s 2025 performance report under the 2021–2026 government action plan.

At the same time, he reaffirmed that the government continues discussions with various countries and companies regarding the construction of a new nuclear reactor. The Armenian government has decided to replace the current plant with a modular nuclear power plant.

“During this year, or at the beginning of 2027, we will choose the specific model, after which we will move to the next phase,” the minister noted.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan earlier said that the government is evaluating offers from the United States, Russia, China, South Korea, and France for the construction of a modular nuclear power plant.

The Armenian Ministry of Economy on Wednesday issued a public invitation to businesses exporting goods to the United States and the EU for a meeting with Minister Gevorg Papoyan.

“Dear businesspeople exporting to the U.S. and the EU, you are invited to attend a meeting with Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan on April 8 at 11:00 a.m. The meeting will take place at the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia (5 M. Mkrtchyan Street),” the ministry said in a statement, providing a registration link.

Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan said on Wednesday that the initial March timeframe for releasing the text of the proposed new constitution will be revised amid ongoing discussions.

Galyan had earlier announced that the draft text of the new Constitution would be published in March 2026.

She also said on Monday that the proposed text, developed to replace the current Constitution via referendum, is ready and will be discussed at the ruling Civil Contract party’s board meeting, as well as by its parliamentary faction.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, she was asked whether the reference to the Declaration of Independence in the current Constitution’s preamble has been removed in the new text, something Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has endorsed, citing its “conflict-logic.”

Galyan said the new text does not even include a preamble, and discussions are ongoing. “We have not yet discussed this in the Constitutional Reforms Council and, therefore, I cannot answer your question directly. We have our own proposals, which have been submitted to the council, and after they are discussed, we will certainly keep you informed,” she told reporters.

She emphasized that the draft currently under circulation does not include a preamble at all, while the reference to the Declaration of Independence is in the preamble.

“At the moment, the submitted text does not contain a preamble at all, and the reference to the Declaration of Independence is in the preamble. We have not finalized it yet and are considering several options,” the minister said.

According to Galyan, discussions are continuing both within the Constitutional Reforms Council and among the ruling party, and no final wording has been decided yet.

“I do not want the impression to arise that we are avoiding presenting what has currently been compiled within the framework of the preamble. The text of the Constitution will be made public in draft form, including the preamble, and the public will be able to see what is written there,” she emphasized.

The minister also noted that the Constitution is not ordinary legislation and requires comprehensive, in-depth discussions.

Regarding the timeline, she reminded reporters that she had initially promised to publish the draft text of the new Armenian Constitution in March, but due to the intensity of the discussions, the publication date has yet to be finalized.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Wednesday inspected newly acquired police motorcycles.

He said on social media that the government had acquired 10 new Italian motorcycles for the Armenian Patrol Police.

In a video posted online, Pashinyan is seen inspecting the motorcycles alongside Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan and a Patrol Police officer.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reaffirmed on Wednesday that the Armenian government must support Armenians displaced from Karabakh in settling in Armenia.

Speaking at the conference titled “Inclusive Development: Achievements and Tasks,” he said:

“I consider it very important that we help our brothers and sisters displaced from Karabakh overcome their state of psychological uncertainty. I believe we should focus on providing full support to ensure that they obtain citizenship of the Republic of Armenia, settle in Armenia, and permanently link their future with Armenia. This is very important both politically and psychologically.”

Pashinyan emphasized that since 2023, he has personally maintained regular contact with individuals displaced from Karabakh, familiarizing himself with their problems and providing responses.

“Since 2023, around 145 billion AMD has been allocated from the state budget of Armenia through various programs to meet the needs of our compatriots displaced from Karabakh,” he said.

The Prime Minister added that, with government support, 1,700 families have already acquired housing in Armenia.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan sent a letter of condolence to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on the occasion of the death of Ilia II, the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia.

Ilia II passed away at the age of 93 on Tuesday.

“It is with sorrow that I learned of the passing of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II. Throughout his nearly half-century tenure, Ilia II’s life and service symbolized the noble values of faith, patriotism, and friendship among nations. His unforgettable contribution to the development of spiritual life, the consolidation of society, and the strengthening of statehood will forever remain in the memory of all. On behalf of the people of Armenia and myself, I extend my sincere condolences to the Government of Georgia, the Georgian Orthodox Church, and the brotherly people of Georgia, wishing them strength and resilience during this difficult time,” Pashinyan said in the letter published by his office. 

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the government would not take decisions that could undermine the peace established with Azerbaijan, speaking at a conference on addressing the issues of people displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh.

“We cannot make decisions that would undermine the peace established with Azerbaijan, collapse it, and return us to the logic of conflict,” Pashinyan said.

He said that people displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh have the Republic of Armenia as their state.

Pashinyan added that the government’s strategy is focused on settling the displaced population in Armenia, both physically and psychologically.

“Together we will make this state, which is a great blessing for the Armenian people, more prosperous, safer and more secure, and ultimately move beyond the logic of survival to the logic of prosperity, development and peace,” he said.
