The ARS Mother and Child Center Celebrates its 20th Anniversary

The Armenian Weekly

After a continuous and devoted service of two decades to our nation, the Mother and Child Health and Birthing Center of the Armenian Relief Society (ARS)—gratified with the success of its multi-faceted performance as a progressive medical establishment—celebrates its 20th anniversary.

The ARS Mother and Child Health and Birthing Center

Conceived and realized in Akhurian, on a native soil ravaged by the 1988 earthquake, the ARS medical center, opened its doors in 1997 to the 40,000 inhabitants of the region’s towns and villages to secure pre- and post-delivery care to their fertile-age women and their progeny, providing all necessary gynecological and pediatric treatments, resulting in a noticeable improvement in the statistics of the region’s overall health and well-being.

As a modern, progress and growth-oriented establishment, the Mother and Child Center, with the energetic support of the global ARS entities, in April 2005, opened its Birthing Center equipped all required up-to-date medical implements and staffed with qualified specialists. After three productive years, in 2008, the Center’s newly assembled, full-service Dental Health Division started treating patients, stabilizing and raising the overall health level of expecting and new mothers—especially during their period of pregnancy.

Today, the ARS Akhurian Mother and Child Health and Birthing Center utilizes—along with all necessary medical and sanitary equipment—up-to-date units providing central heating and uninterrupted electrical power, advanced echocardiographic and mammography related examination systems in its pediatric, gynecological, and first aid departments, broadening its reach in the proper treatment of its patients.

In order to befittingly celebrate the Center’s 20th anniversary, and to encourage and increase the happy advent of female births in the homeland, the ARS Central Executive Board, in its 14th plenary meeting, formulated its “Sponsor-a-Birth” program, based on which, a family blessed with the arrival of a second newborn female child at the ARS Birthing Center shall receive the sum of $150 (USD) as a heartfelt congratulatory gesture.

On this occasion, the ARS Central Executive Board congratulates past and present administrations of the Center, for their devoted service of twenty years, as well as the global ARS entities and all supporting individuals to whom we owe the results, which, we are confident will continue to be realized in the future.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan exclusive: Man Utd have to win Europa League final

Last Updated: 20/05/17 1:38pm

Manchester United's Henrikh Mkhitaryan says losing the Europa League final against Ajax is not an option.

United go to Stockholm next week after their final Premier League game of the campaign against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday, following a guaranteed sixth-place finish in the top flight.

A win on Wednesday night would see them claim their third trophy of the season after the EFL Cup and Community Shield, and would also hand them a spot in the Champions League group stage for next season.

Jose Mourinho has described the game as the biggest in United's history, and Mkhitaryan also claimed it is one of the most important of his own career.

Mkhitaryan told Sky Sports: "I can say that of course there is only one choice and that is to win, we are not going to the final to lose.

"We want to win and have to win, for us it is very important to win this trophy, and also the opportunity to play in the Champions League because Manchester United are not the team who has to play three years in a row in the Europa League.

"It's going to be one of the most important games in my life. I don't want to lose this opportunity. I am only thinking of winning that game, I know we are able to win, and I know it will be a big pleasure to win it.

"If we are going to win the Europa League final it will be an amazing season for us, because have already won two trophies, and this one would be the third one.

"I will not be nervous because I'm not a kid anymore. I know how to handle the pressure, how to get ready for that game, just play my game and be myself.

"I watched some Ajax games, they are a young team, have very good football players individually, and I can say they are very aggressive, they are trying to play the football they are used to playing."

Reflecting on his own season, his first at United since moving from Borussia Dortmund last summer, the Armenian forward says though it started off as a struggle, he would class the campaign as "not bad".

Mkhitaryan burst into form around winter following a slow start under Mourinho, but insists there is more to come next year, and he has enjoyed the challenge.

He said: "My first year was not very easy because at the very beginning I had a little bit of struggle, but that's part of football, I just kept trying to work hard and wait for my second chance, which I took very well.

"I used it, and then I started to have good times. It wasn't a bad year, a normal year, maybe I am able to do more, but for this year it's not bad, and I will try to do more next year.

"Of course I am always positive, and I know I'm capable of doing more. I'm sure I will do more, so I'll keep working hard with a positive mind, and will wait for next season to score more and assist more.

"Manchester United have big ambitions and are always trying to do the best and the maximum, I like that challenge to do something new and challenge myself also."

Everyone made same joke as Henrikh Mkhitaryan won goal of the season at Man United Player of Year Awards

The Armenian's scorpion kick against Sunderland on Boxing Day picked up the coveted award

 By Jake Polden

Henrikh Mkhitaryan was awarded goal of the season at Manchester United's Player of the Year Awards ceremony on Thursday.

And as was to be expected, every comedian on Twitter came out to say exactly the same thing in response to him winning the accolade.

Mkhitaryan was recognised for his spectacular scorpion kick goal in United's 3-1 victory over Sunderland on Boxing Day.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic whipped the ball into the Armenian who – while falling forward – threw his right heel at it to score.

The goal was certainly a worthy winner of an award, given its difficulty, execution and sheer brilliance.

And Mkhitaryan was chuffed to be the recipient of it. Upon receiving his award, he said: "To be honest, I was impressed as well.

"I couldn't imagine I could score such a goal. I didn't really know what was happening.

"I don't think you have to practice these kind of goals, you just have to take this quick decision.

"I couldn't miss this opportunity because I got a great goal from the God."

However, there is a little something that puts a spanner in the works – as is always the case with something like this.

The goal was given so it is all above board, sure. But replays showed Mkhitaryan was offside when he scored and therefore the strike should have been ruled out.

And well, people just don't forget these sort of things…
