Sterligov to sue Azerbaijan at European Court

Russian millionaire German Sterligov intends to sue Azerbaijan at the European Court of Human Rights, his lawyer Artur Ayrapetov has revealed to

He said the case will be taken to Strasbourg in the near future. “The matter is that German Sterligov was first named persona non grata and denied access to Baku. Then the Azeri authorities launched a criminal case against him,” Ayrapetov said.

The lawyer is confident Sterligov will win. “That’s nonsense from the point of view of international law. They first banned him from entering the country and then opened a criminal case, thus depriving him of the right to defend. Azerbaijan is a member of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and its behavior in the given situation is unacceptable,” the lawyer said. He added that the sum of the compensation would be revealed later.

According to earlier reports, Interpol removed German Sterligov’s name from its wanted list. The Russian businessman was accused by Azerbaijan of launching illegal activity in Nagorno Karabakh.

Jewish Community Relations Council of Atlanta passes Armenian Genocide Resolution

Last week, the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of Atlanta adopted a commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, reported the Armenian Assembly of America (Assembly).

Dr. Vahan Kassabian, Armenian Assembly State Chair for Georgia, presented the Armenian Genocide at the JCRC-Atlanta town-hall meeting on August 18. “It was an honor educating the Atlanta Jewish community about the Armenian Genocide,” stated Dr. Kassabian. “The unanimous adoption of this measure illustrates the growing importance of increasing anti-genocide advocacy in our local communities,” Kassabian said.

“The proposal calls for recognizing the genocide carried out by Turkey and for pushing the United States to call it genocide,” according to a report in the .

The adoption of the Armenian Genocide centennial resolution by the JCRC-Atlanta adds to the growing trend of Jewish American advocacy in support of U.S. reaffirmation of the Armenian Genocide. In April, Dr. Kassabian helped organize the Armenian Genocide centennial commemoration of Atlanta which was hosted by the Berman Museum, and cosponsored by the Armenian Assembly of America, Hemshech, Interfaith Community Initiatives, and the Georgia Coalition to Prevent Genocide.

“We applaud the JCRC-Atlanta for adopting this important and timely measure,” stated Assembly Board Co-Chair Anthony Barsamian. “The JCRC has been a leading advocate of human rights across the U.S. and the full adoption of this resolution in October will be a fitting testament to the cause of genocide prevention,” Barsamian said.

Turkey pays former CIA Director & lobbyists to misrepresent attacks on Kurds & ISIS

By Harut Sassounian
Publisher, The California Courier

Thousands of articles have been published worldwide in the recent weeks exposing Turkey’s strategic trickery — using the pretext of fighting ISIS to carry out a genocidal bombing campaign against the Kurds who have courageously countered ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

The Wall Street Journal reported on August 12 that a senior US military official accused Turkey of deceiving the American government by allowing its use of Incirlik airbase to attack ISIS, as a cover for President Erdogan’s war on Kurdish fighters (PKK) in northern Iraq. So far, Turkey has carried out 300 air strikes against the PKK, and only three against ISIS! Erdogan’s intent in punishing the Kurds is to gain the sympathy of Turkish voters in the next parliamentary elections, enabling his party to win an outright majority and establish an autocratic presidential theocracy.

To conceal its deception and mislead the American public, within days of starting its war on the Kurds, Ankara hired Squire Patton Boggs for $32,000 a month, as a subcontractor to the powerful lobbying firm, the Gephardt Group. Squire Patton Boggs includes former Senators Trent Lott and John Breaux, and retired White House official Robert Kapla. The Gephardt lobbying team for Turkey consists of subcontractors Greenberg Traurig, Brian Forni, Lydia Borland, and Dickstein Shapiro LLP; the latter recently added to its lobbying staff former CIA Director Porter Goss. Other lobbying firms hired by Turkey are: Goldin Solutions, Alpaytac, Finn Partners, Ferah Ozbek, and Golin/Harris International. According to US Justice Department records, Turkey pays these lobbying/public relations firms around $5 million a year. Furthermore, several US non-profit organizations serve as fronts for the Turkish government to promote its interests in the United States and take Members of Congress and journalists on all-expense paid junkets to Turkey.

Among the US lobbyists for Turkey, perhaps the most questionable is Porter Goss, CIA Director from 2004 to 2006, who has agreed to sell his soul and possibly US national secrets for a fistful of Turkish Liras.

It is noteworthy that in a report Mr. Goss filed with the Justice Department under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, he avoided answering the question regarding his compensation from the Turkish government. He simply wrote: “Salary not based solely on services rendered to the foreign principal [Turkey]”!

In the same form, filed on April 23, 2015, Mr. Goss described his services for Turkey as follows:

  1. Provide counsel in connection with the extension and strengthening of the Turkish-American relationship in a number of key areas that are the subject of debate in Congress, including trade, energy security, counter-terrorism efforts, and efforts to build regional stability in the broader Middle East and Europe;
  2. Educating Members of Congress and the Administration on issues of importance to Turkey;
  3. Notifying Turkey of any action in Congress or the Executive Branch on issues of importance to Turkey;
  4. Preparing analyses of developments in Congress and the Executive Branch on issues of importance to Turkey.

It is significant that Dickstein Shapiro LLP, Mr. Goss’s employer, misled the Justice Department, by reporting two days prior to the start of his employment and three days before the Armenian Genocide Centennial, that the former CIA Director had already met on behalf of his lobbying firm with nine members of Congress to discuss “US-Turkish relations.”

Most probably, hiring Porter Goss as a lobbyist for Turkey was a reward for his staunch support of Turkish issues, while serving as a Republican Congressman from Florida from 1989 to 2004. During the October 2000 debate on the Armenian Genocide resolution in the House International Relations Committee, Cong. Goss, the then Chair of the House Intelligence Committee, testified against the adoption of the resolution, using the excuse that it would harm US-Turkey relations. Nevertheless, the genocide resolution was adopted by a vote of 24 to 11.

It is bad enough that former Members of Congress are selling themselves to anyone who is willing to pay them. But, the Director of the CIA…? This is more than unethical; it is a grave risk to US national security. The American government must not allow the sale of its top spymaster to the highest bidder! What if North Korea offered him a higher price? Would Mr. Goss jump ship and lobby for an enemy state just to make a few more dollars?

Thomas Tuchel hails hat-trick hero Henrikh Mkhitaryan

The Armenian scored a sublime hat-trick in Dortmund’s Europa League qualifier and the head coach has hailed his professionalism, Goal.com reports.

Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel says it is a pleasure to watch Henrikh Mkhitaryan play following his dismantling of Wolfsberger on Thursday.

Goals from Marco Reus and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang provided the platform for a stunning Mkhitaryan hat-trick to cap a thrashing of the Austrians and seal a 5-0 victory on the night and 6-0 aggregate win to see Dortmund sail into the competition’s playoff round.

Mkhitaryan’s treble came within 13 breathless minutes late in the second half and Tuchel hailed the Armenian as a player he hopes can lead by example.

“Mkhitaryan is an absolute model professional. I’m very glad to have him in this team,” the head coach said.

“It’s a great pleasure for me to work with him and to watch him and see how he deals with his talent.”

All of Dortmund’s goals came in the second half after a first period of near misses and poor finishing had set pulses racing at Signal Iduna Park.

Aubameyang especially was guilty of spurning numerous chances throughout and, though pleased with his side’s efforts after the interval, Tuchel was keen to stress the need to strive for better.

“The second half was a good reaction to the first,” he added. “We played with great tempo, showed good temperament, created many chances and ended with five goals scored.

“I was pleased with the second half, but in the first half we had a lack of positional discipline and could not play our passes.

“In the second 45 minutes we showed great discipline in the spaces in which we want to combine. As a consequence we could play much faster passes and play between the lines.”
