Murder of Russians aboard A321 equivalent to attack on country

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said that the murder of Russians aboard a passenger plane that had crashed over Egypt’s Sinai was equivalent to an attack on Moscow, Sputnik News reports.

A Russian Airbus A321 crashed en route from Egypt’s resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg on October 31, leaving no survivors. The Russian Security Service (FSB) confirmed Tuesday that the detonation of a home-made explosive device was the cause of the crash.

“The terrorist act in the Sinai Peninsula was an attack on Russian citizens, which is equivalent to an attack on the state.”

As Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed, Moscow’s actions will be based on Article 51 of the UN Charter, which implies the right of any state of individual or collective self-defense in case of an attack upon it, Lavrov said.

Moscow will step up all efforts available to protect itself, Lavrov added.

Lavrov said that “the right to self-defense will be implemented by all available means both political and military, and through special services, intelligence, and so on.”

The Russian top diplomat said that Moscow had already received intelligence data on the deadly A321 crash from foreign partners.”With regard to a concrete response in connection with possible evidence, data, information about where might be people in one way or another involved in this terrorist act, they have been already partially received from [foreign] special services.”

“Of course, this information can not be made public for obvious reasons,” Lavrov added.

Islamic State shows photo of improvised Russian plane bomb

Islamic State’s official magazine carried a photo on Wednesday of what it said was the improvised bomb that brought down the Russian airliner over Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula last month, killing all 224 people on board, reports.

The photo showed a can of Schweppes Gold soft drink and what appeared to be a detonator and switch on a blue background.

“The divided Crusaders of the East and West thought themselves safe in their jets as they cowardly bombarded the Muslims of the Caliphate,” Dabiq magazine said. “And so revenge was exacted upon those who felt safe in the cockpits.”

The group also published a photo of what it said were passports belonging to dead Russians “obtained by the mujahideen”. It was not immediately possibly to verify the authenticity of the photos published in the magazine.

Islamic State said it had exploited a loophole at Sharm al-Sheikh airport, where the Airbus 321 originated, in order to smuggle a bomb on board.

The group said it had initially planned to bring down a plane belonging to a country participating in the U.S.-led coalition bombing it in Syria and Iraq but changed course after Moscow started its own airstrikes campaign in Syria.

“A bomb was smuggled onto the airplane, leading to the deaths of 219 Russians and 5 other crusaders only a month after Russia’s thoughtless decision.”

Drinking three cups of coffee a day could help you live longer, says Harvard

– Moderate coffee consumption reduces the risk of dying prematurely from heart disease, Parkinson’s disease and Type 2 diabetes.

Drinking three to five cups of coffee a day might help you live longer, according to new research.

Moderate coffee consumption reduces the risk of dying prematurely from heart disease, neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, and Type 2 diabetes, scientists found.

It also seems to lower the risk of suicide – but no association was seen with rates of cancer death.

Whether or not the coffee drunk contained caffeine made no difference. The benefits are thought to be linked to other plant compounds in coffee besides the stimulant.

Lead scientist Ming Ding, from theHarvard T H Chan School of Public Health in the US, said: “Bioactive compounds in coffee reduce insulin resistance and systematic inflammation. That could explain some of our findings. However, more studies are needed to investigate the biological mechanisms producing these effects.”

The results, published in the journal Circulation, are from a pooled analysis of three large on-going studies with a total of 208,501 male and female participants.
