Artsakh State Minister: The Russian side has made significant efforts to ensure the ceasefire regime in its area of responsibility

ARMINFO
Armenia –
Marianna Mkrtchyan

ArmInfo. From noon on March 25 to the morning of March 26, the situation and positions along the line of contact of Artsakh did not change, and the Azerbaijani armed forces remain in the village of Parukh and on one side of the adjacent Karaglukh height, and a short while ago they made an unsuccessful attack attempt against our military unit. This is stated in the statement of the State Minister of the Republic of Artsakh Artak Beglaryan.

At the same time, he noted that the Artsakh Armed Forces are taking appropriate precautionary and containment measures to neutralize possible threats. “Yesterday, we had 3 killed and 15 wounded serviceman from Azerbaijani UAV strikes, the Azerbaijani side also suffered significant losses.

Strongholds of Russian peacekeepers continue to operate in Parukh and Khramort, and the Russian side has made significant efforts to ensure a ceasefire regime in its zone of responsibility. We hope that through Russian efforts, the Azerbaijani troops will be withdrawn to their starting positions and will no longer allow violations against the security of the people of Artsakh and the guarantees of the Russian Federation.

We stand firmly in our Motherland and are ready to face various challenges,” the statement said.

In turn, the Artsakh Defense Army refuted the statements of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry. “The message spread by the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan about an alleged attempt of sabotage by units of the Defense Army of the Republic of Artsakh is an absolute lie, pursuing a primitive goal to hide their own provocations,” the Artsakh Defense Army stressed.

It is noteworthy that today a number of telegram channels spread information that allegedly the order to withdraw the Armenian troops came from the commander of the Artsakh Autonomous Region on direct instructions from Yerevan.

Meanwhile, as it became known to ArmInfo from its own sources familiar with the situation, according to the agreements reached, there was no observation post of Russian peacekeepers in Parukh.  Moreover, the Armed Forces of the Artsakh Defense Army arbitrarily left their positions on this section of the line of contact due to unfavorable weather conditions and poor equipment of the posts, which was used by the Azerbaijani military. The peacekeepers arrived at this section of the line of contact only after the spread of information that control over the Armenian positions was taken by Azerbaijani forces.

YEREVAN, MARCH 26, ARMENPRESS. The Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Armenian Parliament Eduard Aghajanyan sent a letter to OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Margareta Cederfelt and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s Special Representative on South Caucasus Kari Henriksen over the latest Azerbaijani military actions against Artsakh and the humanitarian crisis which resulted after it cut off gas supply to Artsakh.

Aghajanyan noted in the letter that despite Azerbaijan claiming in the international arena that it wants to establish peace in South Caucasus, in reality Azerbaijan continues the psychological, humanitarian and military terror against the people of Nagorno Karabakh, with an aim to achieve a complete exodus of Armenians from Artsakh.

“I underscored the importance of the international community’s swift reaction to the situation and immediate suppression of Azerbaijan, and I reiterated Armenia’s readiness to re-launch the process of peaceful, negotiated and final resolution within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship,” Aghajanyan said in a statement on social media.

On March 24-25 the Azerbaijani troops attacked Artsakh military positions and invaded the Parukh village.

Azeri drone strikes killed 3 Artsakh troops and wounded 15 others.

Armenian Foreign Ministry calls on Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno Karabakh to demand Azerbaijan to pull back

YEREVAN, MARCH 26, ARMENPRESS. The international community must take practical and targeted steps to prevent the attempts of destabilizing the situation in South Caucasus, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. At the same time, it added that it expects that the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno Karabakh will take concrete and visible steps to resolve the situation to not allow new deaths and combat operations.

“The recent statements issued by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Azerbaijan once again blatantly indicate that the objective of Azerbaijan’s policy of systematic violence and terror against Nagorno-Karabakh is ethnic cleansing of the Armenian settlements in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Thereby, on March 24, the invasion of Azerbaijani armed forces to the village of Parukh in Nagorno-Karabakh was preceded by constant shelling of Armenian settlements and civilian infrastructure, as well as the threats from the Azerbaijani side voiced for several days by loudspeakers and directed to the Armenian population of Khramort village, neighbouring the village of Parukh, urging them to leave their settlements.

In parallel with this invasion and provocation of hostilities, amid the unprecedented cold weather, Azerbaijan has been disrupting the operation of a vitally important gas pipeline for several weeks, putting the people of Nagorno-Karabakh on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe. Moreover, in order to complete its pursuit of ethnic cleansing and to implement the policy of subjecting the Armenians of Artsakh to genocide with new vigor, Azerbaijan demands through its statements the withdrawal of the self-defense forces of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The statements of the Foreign and Defense Ministries of Azerbaijan also prove the pre-planned manner of the aggression carried out by Azerbaijan in the area of responsibility of the peacekeeping forces of the Russian Federation in Nagorno-Karabakh, which is a blatant contempt for commitments obliged by the Trilateral Statement of November 9, 2020, including the provision for the sides to stop in their positions.

The international community is obliged to undertake effective and targeted steps to prevent the attempts of destabilizing the situation in the South Caucasus. At the same time, we emphasize the importance of implementing proper investigation of the actions of the peacekeeping contingent during the invasion of the units of Azerbaijani armed forces into the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping forces in Nagorno Karabakh, as well as the peacekeeping contingent to issue a clear demand to Azerbaijani forces to return to their starting positions.

We also expect the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh to undertake concrete, visible steps to resolve the situation and prevent new casualties and hostilities,” the foreign ministry said in the statement.

Turkish press: Book features engravings on Ottoman-era tombstones

Carved decorations in the form of figurative compositions appear on mosques, madrasahs and tombs across Anatolia, but now a book of detailed research features a series of aesthetic images of tombstones from different ethnic cultures that prevailed in Turkey’s northwestern province of Edirne for hundreds of years.

A book named “Edirne’s Tombstones’ written by Cem Altınel presents a large scale of data explaining the culture, art, science, literature, politics, military, economy, trade, bureaucracy and social life of the Ottoman city through examples of tombstones reflecting the most concrete practices of Turkish art.

The book also brings to light a series of examples of cultures from different ethnic groups, such as Turkish, Greek, Jewish, Armenian, Levantine and Bulgarian, who lived in the city for hundreds of years, reflected on the tombstones by stone carving masters in Edirne.

It also aims to showcase believers’ intensity of love and their longing for loved ones in the past, evaluating the inscriptions and patterns on tombstones from an aesthetic point of view.

The latest status of some burial stones that make up the content of the book is included in the work by comparing the images in Arif Dağdeviren’s archive.

After advancing their positions into the Parukh village of Artsakh’s Askeran region, Azerbaijani forces continued their breach of the line-of-contact toward the critically strategic Karaglukh Heights from different direction, the Artsakh Information Center reported.

“Several retaliatory attacks repelled the enemy’s diversion efforts,” added the statement.

At 5 p.m. local time the situation on the line-of-contact remained tense and negotiations continued with the Russian peacekeeping contingent to stabilize the situation there.

The attacks on Artsakh Army positions resumed Saturday morning and continued throughout the day

The Azerbaijani forces, which have been shelling Khramort and surrounding villages since late last month, stepped up their attack on Thursday and advanced their positions inside Artsakh, invading the Parish village in Askeran, with their eye on the Karaglukh village.

Artsakh State Minister Artak Beglaryan warned that Azerbaijani troops still have not pulled back after aggressively advancing their positions. Artsakh authorities reported that three Artakh soldiers were killed on Friday, while Artsakh Human Rights Defender Gegham Stepanyan announced that 14 people were injured during Friday’s attacks.

Beglaryan said the Russian peacekeepers continued to man their posts in Parukh and Khramort, and that “the Russian side made significant efforts to enforce the ceasefire in its area of responsibility.”

“We expect that through Russia’s efforts the Azerbaijani troops will pull back to their initial positions and will not continue further advances against the security of the people of Artsakh and the Russian Federation’s guarantees. We stand firmly in our homeland and we are ready to withstand whatever challenges may come,” Beglaryan said.
