YEREVAN, MAY 2, ARMENPRESS. On the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan sent congratulatory letters to the President and the Prime Minister of Egypt, the President, the Vice President and the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, the King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Emir of Kuwait, the President and the Prime Minister of Syria, the President of Tunisia, the Prime Minister of Iraq, the Prime Minister of Lebanon, the Emir and the President of the Council of Ministers of Qatar, the Armenian PM’s Office said.

In his congratulatory letters the Armenian PM wished those leaders good health and happiness, and their peoples – lasting peace and welfare.

YEREVAN, MAY 2, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian military denies Azerbaijani accusations on opening fire at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

“The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense has again released a false statement accusing the Armenian military units in opening fire from small arms and grenade launchers on May 1 in the direction of Azerbaijani military positions deployed in the eastern part of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border,” the Armenian Ministry of Defense said, adding that the situation at the border is relatively stable and is under the Armenian military’s control.

YEREVAN, MAY 2, ARMENPRESS. Finland will decide to apply for NATO membership on May 12, Finnish newspaper Iltalehti reported late on Sunday, citing anonymous government sources.

According to the newspaper, on May 12 the Finnish President Sauli Niinisto will first announce his approval for joining the Western defence alliance, followed by parliamentary groups giving their approval for the application, the paper reported.

YEREVAN, MAY 2, ARMENPRESS. Rosa Linn, Armenia’s representative for Eurovision Song Contest 2022, rehearsed her song Snap for the first time at the PalaOlimpico in Turin, Italy, Armenpress reports citing the official website of Eurovision Song Contest.

The 21-year-old singer was born in Vanadzor. She is composer and producer.  

“My songs are a journey to my inner world, my soul and my feelings. Music is home. I never give up on music. Even the worst days can become the best melodies and lyrics”, the singer once said.

The Eurovision 2022 will take place in Turin. The first semifinal will be held on May 10, the second one on May 12, and the final is scheduled on May 14.




FLYONE Armenia starts operating Yerevan-Tbilisi-Yerevan regular direct flights

YEREVAN, MAY 2, ARMENPRESS. FLYONE Armenia airline started operating regular direct flights Yerevan-Tbilisi-Yerevan from May 1, the aircompany said in a statement.

The flights will be operated from Yerevan’s Zvartnots International Airport to the Shota Rustaveli Tbilisi International Airport, 4 times a week – on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. It is expected to increase the number of flights starting from June.

YEREVAN, MAY 2, ARMENPRESS. There are no plans to re-demarcate the Armenian-Turkish border, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

“In response to the question of the media, we inform that there is no discussion or agreement on the redemarcation of the Armenian-Turkish border. There is no such issue on the agenda,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Vahan Hunanyan said in a statement.

PM chairs consultation on draft of new model of assessing person’s functionality

YEREVAN, MAY 2, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan chaired a consultation today, during which the draft of a new model on assessing the functionality of a person was discussed.

The draft has been submitted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

The meeting firstly touched upon the current system of the assessment of a person’s functionality, the existing problems and shortcomings, the disability examination process, the services provided, the guarantees and the social protection.

It was reported that the new model of changing the disability policy aims at showing a more targeted approach to persons with disabilities, taking also into account the opportunities and capacities of families. Additionally, it is also planned to increase the number of current common social services from 34 to 49, improve their infrastructure and engage new professional capacities.

Thereafter, the meeting participants discussed the roadmap for the introduction of this new model, as well as the results expected from the new system. It was reported that the model has been developed taking into account the international experience.

Summing up the discussions, PM Pashinyan highlighted taking constant steps and providing targeted support to engage disabled people into public life. He tasked to include the proposals and ideas made today into the draft.

Armenian Justice Minister meets with Georgian PM in Tbilisi

YEREVAN, MAY 2, ARMENPRESS. Justice Minister of Armenia Karen Andreasyan met with Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili during his official visit in Tbilisi, the ministry said in a news release.

The Georgian PM conveyed his warm greetings to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, highlighting the firm partnering relations with Pashinyan.

During the meeting the importance of the cooperation memorandum signed between the Armenian and Georgian ministries of justice this year in January was emphasized. The Georgian PM highlighted the agreement reached between the justice ministers of the two countries to strengthen the cooperation in justice, human rights and public services field.

Minister Andreasyan introduced the Georgian PM on the cooperation between the two countries in justice sector. The importance of preserving peace and stability in the region and jointly fighting the current challenges was emphasized.

The Georgian PM’s initiative “Peaceful Neighborhood in South Caucasus” was also discussed during the meeting. In this context the Georgian side affirmed its readiness to contribute to the strengthening of peace in the region.

PM Pashinyan receives Chairman of Union of Armenian Evangelical Churches of Eurasia

YEREVAN, MAY 2, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan received Chairman of the Union of Armenian Evangelical Churches of Eurasia, head of the department of Armenian studies at the Catholic University of Lyon, the Very Rev. Dr. Rene Levonian, the PM’s Office said.

The sides exchanged ideas about the domestic and external challenges faced by Armenia and its people, as well as the ways of overcoming these challenges. The Armenia-Artsakh-Diaspora ties were also touched upon.

The Very Rev. Dr. Rene Levonian thanked the Armenian PM for the meeting and stated that he is ready to assist in solving the problems facing the homeland as much as possible.
