YEREVAN, MAY 5, ARMENPRESS. During today’s Cabinet meeting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan commented on the rumors about how the government became the owner of the Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine.

“Some consider this a suspicious, corruption deal. This is very surprising. If any ruler or a ruler’s cousin became the owner of that property with offshore, no one would worry, as it always happened, but when the state acquired property seems doubtful, I don’t know why.

What is suspicious? An investor, who acquired share from the old shareholders, decided to make a donation to Armenia, and Armenia gratefully accepted that donation”, the PM said.

Recently in the Parliament the Prime Minister said that “the Republic of Armenia, the people are the owner of the Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine”.

YEREVAN, MAY 5, ARMENPRESS. Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan said that there’ve been no discussions between Armenia and Azerbaijan on enclaves.

Speaking to reporters, Grigoryan said that the opposition’s claims that there is a danger of possible “transfer of enclaves to Azerbaijan” are unfounded and fake.

“No issue of enclaves was raised so far. We can say that there are enclaves from both sides, and their territories are nearly equal, both sides are silent on this matter and it hasn’t been discussed. Our hope and a possible option for solution is that Armenia leaves the enclave to Azerbaijan, while the Azerbaijani enclaves that are in Armenian territory remain to Armenia. Of course, there is a question on how these were created, and we continue studying this, but the general long-term option is this,” Grigoryan said.

YEREVAN, MAY 5, ARMENPRESS. Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan commented on the recent statements of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev according to which the process of clarifying the borders with Armenia will be implemented on the basis of all the maps of 1918 and the once that existed before the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, and that according to some of the maps of 1918 to 1920, Yerevan and Syunik were allegedly part of Azerbaijan.

Speaking to reporters, Grigoryan said that he is not going to make any statement over the maps or the historical excursion, adding that all maps and historical facts exist, any member of the society both in Armenia and Azerbaijan can get acquainted with the maps and know whom which territory historically belonged to.

Armen Grigoryan said that one of the issues of the possible peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan is the recognition of each other’s territorial integrity.

“Of course, we note that in 1992 Armenia and Azerbaijan recognized each other’s sovereign territories and sovereignty within the CIS, but you also know that other developments have taken place in the future, but Armenia and Azerbaijan continue recognizing each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Of course, such statements do not contribute to the formation of a peace agenda and to working in a calm environment. We hope that such statements will be as few as possible”, he said.

YEREVAN, MAY 5, ARMENPRESS. Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan says he hasn’t seen Azerbaijan publicly rejecting Armenia’s 6-point proposal.

Speaking to reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Grigoryan reminded that Armenia submitted to Azerbaijan a 6-point proposal in response to Baku’s 5-point proposal.

“Azerbaijan’s proposed points were not unacceptable for Armenia. With its 6 points Armenia proposed that there should be a resolution also to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict in order for comprehensive peace to be possible. Now, our approach is that these two packages, 5+6 points must be joined with each other and start negotiations over a peace treaty in order to find a long-term solution to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict,” Grigoryan said.

He reiterated Armenia’s position on prioritizing a solution to the security, defense and rights of Armenians living in Artsakh and that the status of Nagorno Karabakh should be developed in accordance.

“I haven’t seen a public rejection of this package. There is an understanding in our discussions that these two packages should be joined and that negotiations should start. Both the Azerbaijani side and all other international partners have this understanding. Starting negotiations over the 5+6 points is a legitimate approach and we’ve seen that understanding,” Grigoryan said.
