A diplomatic source told RIA Novosti that Turkey’s foreign offices in Iran are recruiting Afghan citizens there to participate in hostilities on the side of Ukraine at the behest of Ankara.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, together with his wife Mehriban, made an excursion to the occupied Armenian historical region of Kovsakan, renamed Zangilan by Azerbaijanis.

As usual, the Azerbaijani leader made a number of statements.

“Our independence was not strong either at the beginning or at the end of the 20th century. Therefore, our people faced great tragedies. Both Eastern Zangezur and Karabakh were occupied. The then authorities could not protect our lands. However, today our independence is strong, and as a result, we won a victory in the second Karabakh war, a historic victory. As a result, we brought the enemy to its knees, and today we are here,” Aliyev said.

According to him, “if we were not independent, that is, in the truest sense of the word, we would not be able to put an end to the Armenian occupation. What were the factors that led to this occupation – of course, external ones.

“Today, the strength factor is in the foreground. I talked about this ten years ago. All my speeches are in the press. I said that international law does not work. We should not deceive ourselves, we should be stronger, gather our strength. If necessary, drive the enemy from our lands by force. I spoke about it and did it,” the Azerbaijani president continued to speak.

Emphasizing that the factor of force will continue to dominate the world, the President of Azerbaijan he noted: “Recent history has also shown this. Therefore, we must continue to be strong, and we are becoming strong. Today our economic indicators are very positive. I can say that this year one of the rapidly developing countries on a global scale is Azerbaijan.

“We are increasing our military strength. After the war, new armed formations were created, new equipment is being purchased, and we will continue to do this. Because if we are not strong, we will not be able to live as we want. We want to live freely. We want no one to interfere in our affairs from now on. There is no need for this. We have built such a wonderful state that today many can envy,” he said.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev talked about the Nagorno-Karabakh status after defining borders with Armenia.

“I have already expressed my opinion on the Minsk Group, I do not consider it necessary to repeat it again,” he said.

“First, the whole world, leading countries and leading international organizations have accepted the new realities. This was very important, as it could have been otherwise. This is our very big political success. 

Secondly, leading international organizations are already taking our agenda as a basis. I said that we should define the borders with Armenia. Armenia refused this for a year and a half.”

“And what happened in the end? On May 24, the first meeting of the commissions took place on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border. This is of great importance. 

We will define the boundaries, which is very important. Since these borders were also occupied by Armenians. On the other hand, this will automatically officially put an end to the territorial claims against Azerbaijan by the revanchist, fascist forces in Armenia,” he claimed.

“Because if we define the borders, then what status of “Nagorno-Karabakh” can we talk about?! There is the Karabakh zone, the Karabakh region. 

This is the territory of Azerbaijan and everyone accepts it. Therefore, the first meeting of the commissions on the delimitation of the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia is of great importance,” Aliyev noted, Azerbaijani media reported.

Deputies of the Karabakh National Assembly have issued a statement in connection with the arrest of opposition politican Avetik Chalabyan.

“Expressing concern over the choice of a measure of restraint in the form of detention, knowing about the activities, professional and personal qualities of Avetik Chalabyan, we assure that his release will in no way interfere with a fair trial.

We ask you to take measures to change the decision made against Avetik Chalabyan and release the latter from custody, as well as to continue an impartial investigation in accordance with the letter of the law.”

We only note that the said statement bears the signatures of 10 deputies of the Karabakh parliament.

Karabakh President Arayik Harutyunyan published a statement on his Facebook page in which he touched upon the arrest of a public and political figure Avetik Chalabyan.

Avetik Chalabyan, in his opinion, is a true patriot.

“Under his leadership, a number of important programs and initiatives were implemented in Karabakh and are being implemented to this day, aimed at preserving and disseminating our national values, as well as improving and developing the security components of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

Personally knowing and trusting Avetik Chalabyan, highly appreciating his activities, values, and exceptional human qualities, on behalf of the people of Karabakh and on my own behalf, I ask the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Armenia to reconsider the expediency and necessity of the chosen measure of restraint in the form of detention, as well as to ensure a complete, objective and a comprehensive preliminary investigation that meets all conditions,” he noted.
