Artur Vanetsyan left for Europe due to health issues, spokesman says

One of the opposition leaders Artur Vanetsyan, who heads the Homeland Party and the With Honor parliamentary faction, has gone on a short trip to Europe due to health issues, the party spokesman, Sos Hakobyan, told MediaHub on Saturday, commenting on media reports.

“Our entire team will take part in the nationwide rally scheduled for today,” he said.

Vanetsyan will rejoin daily anti-government protests in Yerevan after returning to the country, the spokesman said.

“Mr. Vanetsyan will continue his struggle upon his return to Armenia,” Hakobyan noted.

YEREVAN, MAY 27, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a meeting with French Ambassador to Armenia Anne Louyot, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a press release. 

The PM praised the dynamically developing Armenian-French cooperation and said that Armenia is interested in the continuous strengthening of its exceptional relations with friendly France both bilaterally and multilaterally.

PM Pashinyan underscored France’s role as an OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair in the comprehensive resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. 

Ambassador Louyot thanked the Prime Minister for the assessment and said that France gives great importance to cooperation with friendly Armenia and is ready to continue efforts for deepening the ties.

Prime Minister Pashinyan and Ambassador Louyot also discussed issues relating to the Armenian-French bilateral relations, the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, regional situation and developments.

Agrarian University hosts 1st Armenian-Iranian Agrotechnology Conference

YEREVAN, MAY 27, ARMENPRESS. The 1st Armenian-Iranian Agrotechnology Conference will lay the foundation for effective and sustainable cooperation between agrotechnology companies from Armenia and Iran, the Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri said in his remarks.

The 1st Armenian-Iranian Agrotechnology Conference is underway at the National Agrarian University of Armenia in Yerevan.

Ambassador Zohouri noted that agriculture and animal husbandry are strategic directions for both countries.

“Armenia and Iran can closely cooperate in organic food. I am sure that we will be able to achieve big results through university and sectoral ties. It is important for both sides to have information base accessible to everyone, and the best platform for this is the university,” the Iranian Ambassador said. He added that short-term trainings and courses can be organized for students of both countries.

Deputy Minister of Economy of Armenia Tigran Gabrielyan said that Armenia highly values cooperation with Iran in various areas, which is conditioned by mutual economic benefits and a common approach in regional matters.

“Today’s conference is very important for the expansion of cooperation between the two countries and deepening of business ties,” he said.

YEREVAN, MAY 27, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan held a meeting with President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović and comprehensively discussed the bilateral and mutually beneficial Armenia-Montenegro relations and prospects of enhancing the ties.

“The opportunities for deepening bilateral economic cooperation and increasing trade turnover volumes was specially addressed,” President Khachaturyan said at a joint press conference after the meeting.

He added that the big potential in tourism and IT cooperation was discussed, as well as prospects of partnership in industry, healthcare and renewable energy.

“I am glad to note that the delegation of Montenegro includes the Mayor of Podgorica. Yerevan and Podgorcia signed a cooperation agreement back in 1978, and we agreed with President Đukanović to assist the city authorities of the two capitals to boost cooperation,” Khachaturyan said.

President Khachaturyan also discussed Armenia’s efforts for establishing sustainable peace in the region.

“I am happy to note the similarity of our views over bilateral, international and regional issues. The need for immediate repatriation of the Armenian prisoners of war and solution of urgent humanitarian issues was specially underscored, including the need to preserve the Armenian cultural monuments under Azerbaijani control,” the Armenian President said.

Iranian ambassador calls for respect to internationally recognized borders in unblocking of connections

YEREVAN, MAY 27, ARMENPRESS. Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri commented on the negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan over opening of regional connections, emphasizing the need for respecting international laws in that process.

Talking to reporters, the Iranian ambassador said that the Armenia-Russia-Azerbaijan deputy prime-ministerial working group’s meetings recorded good results.

“It is very important for all sides to respect the internationally recognized laws and that the negotiations are constructive. The region is ready to develop in various directions, and this can happen with effective negotiations of these several countries,” he said, adding that by respecting internationally recognized borders these roads can be opened and connection can be created.

Armenian Minister of Defense holds meeting with commander of Russian peacekeeping forces in Artsakh

YEREVAN, MAY 27, ARMENPRESS. Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan held a meeting with Major-General Andrey Volkov, the Commander of the Russian peacekeeping forces in Artsakh. The Russian Embassy’s Military Attache Colonel Igor Shcherbakov also attended the meeting.

Volkov briefed the Armenian Minister of Defense on the situation and ongoing developments in the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeepers.

The sides highly valued Russia’s efforts in stabilizing the military-political situation in the region, as well as the course and effectiveness of the Russian peacekeeping mission in Artsakh.

YEREVAN, MAY 27, ARMENPRESS. Montenegro has great respect for the Armenian government’s efforts aimed at ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region, President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović said after his meeting with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan in Yerevan.

President Đukanović noted that his visit is the first presidential visit from Montenegro to Armenia ever since both countries gained independence.

“And as President Khachaturyan said, despite our rich and long years of traditional inter-state relations, this is the first visit, therefore visits like these are very important to use it to build friendship and make a step forward, improve interstate relations. I met with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, with Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan, and now I am meeting with you. This enables us to speak concretely on how to improve interstate relations. We spoke in detail on these issues and we really spoke about the necessary priorities. I am sure that there will be responsible approach to these issues, and we will benefit from it and in the near future we will see more comprehensive cooperation between the two countries. We have cooperation in economy, we were able to meet Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan. I hope that in the future we will receive high level representatives in Montenegro to further advance our interstate relations,” President Đukanović said.

Speaking on the era of peaceful development adopted by the Armenian government, the President of Montenegro said they truly want solutions to be reached that would lead to lasting peace and stability in the region.

“Peace and stability will in turn lead to faster economic development. We wish you good luck. I wish that you reach your goals. I am sure that you are choosing the right solutions, and we are already impatiently awaiting our future cooperation,” the President of Montenegro said.

Armenian Deputy PM describes first border commission meeting with Azerbaijan as “constructive”

YEREVAN, MAY 27, ARMENPRESS. Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan described as “constructive” the first meeting of the commissions on delimitation and border security between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Grigoryan, who is the head of the Armenian commission, told TASS News Agency that organizational issues relating exclusively to the future joint work were discussed at the first meeting.

“We met on the border on May 24. I consider the meeting to be constructive. There is no agreement yet on the date of the next meeting of the commissions, but there is a confirmation that the meeting will take place in Moscow,” Deputy PM Grigoryan said.

Grigoryan added that next week Moscow will host the meeting of the Armenia-Russia-Azerbaijan trilateral deputy prime-ministerial working group on unblocking of transport and economic connections.
