Head of Azatamut community: Russian peacekeepers arrived in Armenia’s Tavush

 Russian peacekeepers visited the Tavush region, but no one knows why, Head of the Azatamut community Artur Beginyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“They say that the Russian peacekeepers went to Noyemberyan, they were in several pickup trucks,” he said.

According to Beginyan, no demarcation processes are being carried out.

Earlier the former Prime Minister of Armenia Hrant Bagratyan wrote that right now the Azerbaijani “peacekeepers” are taking measurements in the Azatamut community of the Tavush province.

Armenian flag raised in Shurnukh village

An Armenian 30-meter high flag was raised in Shurnukh village on the initiative of the community leader of Goris.

The village also hosted festive and cultural events, all localities of the community presented their traditional dishes.

“The enemy, located just a few meters from Shurnukh, must constantly feel that we are one and not only united with the inhabitants of our border territories, but that we will continue to improve our settlements,” the organizers of the event said in a statement.

Conspiracy theorists in Turkey consider Pope’s visit to Iraq a secret message

With the Turkish pro-government media already flooded with conspiracy theories, anti-Semitism and propaganda, Pope Francis I’s current visit to Iraq has prompted Islamist conspiracy theorists to raise the issue that the visit amounts to Western meddling in Turkey’s affairs, Ahval reported.

One of the most prominent pro-government Islamist columnists for the Yeni Safak newspaper, Yusuf Kaplan, described the pontiff’s visit as a Vatican-Zionist siege.

Ibrahim Karagul, another pro-government Islamist columnist, commented on a photo taken during a meeting between the Pope and Ayatollah Sistani, a leading spiritual leader of Iraqi Shia Muslims.

He referred to the photo as alarming noting the image can be used to write a book.

Politician: Without arresting Armenian PM, General Staff continues its criminal inaction

Without arresting Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and the government, the General Staff continues its criminal inaction, ex-head of the National Security Service, politician David Shahnazaryan noted.

“Without arresting Pashinyan and the government, the General Staff continues its criminal inaction,” he noted. 

According to him, the current authorities “have brought the country to the brink of collapse.

“The Armenian Prime Minister, the government will no longer be able to make adequate decisions in this critical situation for the Armenian people.”

“The Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia shall ensure the defense, security, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders,” he added “It is the constitutional duty of the Armed Forces to immediately neutralize the threat it has identified.”

“In this crucial situation for the Armenian statehood, the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces was obliged to take immediate measures to eliminate the greatest threat to the security of the Republic of Armenia, to arrest Prime Minister Pashinyan and members of the government,” he added.

Armenia ex-official: Army General Staff chief has options to be reinstated after March 9 also

YEREVAN. – Even if the deadline for the President to petition to the Constitutional Court ends on March 9, the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Onik Gasparyan, still has various options—including appealing to the administrative court—for being reinstated. Arpine Hovhannisyan, former National Assembly (NA) vice-speaker and ex-Minister of Justice, told this to reporters ahead of the opposition’s rally Saturday on Marshal Baghramyan Avenue, across the NA building.

“I cannot say what the chief of the General Staff will decide, but the fact is that the issue has not been resolved,” she added.

Also, Hovhannisyan noted that neither the Constitution nor the law on the status of the servicemen provides grounds for dismissing the chief of the General Staff.

When asked why the President does not challenge—at the Constitutional Court—the Prime Minister’s proposal to sack the chief of the General Staff, Arpine Hovhannisyan said: “If I comment from the position of the Prime Minister, there can be a threat there, manipulation of citizenship card, there can be a request, tears, political trade.”

And reflecting on the actions of the opposition, Hovhannisyan said that Marshal Baghramyan Avenue will remain closed as long as the current treacherous junta rules in Armenia.

If the PM Nikol Pashinyan fires army head on Monday, then the opposition will gather on this square on Tuesday, the representative of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun All-Union Ishkhan Saghatelyan noted during a protest in Yerevan.

“Monday is an important day in terms of resolving our issues. If on Monday the supreme traitor, the villain again resorts to lawlessness and tries to fire head of General Staff Onik Gasparyan, then on Tuesday at 17:00 we will gather on this square and together decide on further steps and actions,” he said.

Armenia PM Pashinyan will be unable to ensure fair elections, says Homeland Party leader

YEREVAN. – There is definitely a significant change, first of all, in the mood of our people. The chairman of the opposition Homeland Party, Artur Vanetsyan, on Saturday told this to reporters on Marshal Baghramyan Avenue, across the National Assembly of Armenia. 

“Initially, the government tried to turn this struggle into a fight between the former and the incumbent [authorities], into a fight for the seat of power. But our society realized that it was not about that, but about more serious things: the existence of our country, the future, the welfare of our people. People who do not support us, do not have sympathy for the Homeland Salvation Movement also visit [Marshal] Baghramyan Avenue today. But they come here to show their protest, their position,” Vanetsyan added.

According to him, the agenda of the aforesaid movement is the same: PM Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation, the formation of an interim government, after which the holding of snap parliamentary elections. “The people must decide—through free _expression_ of will—who should be in power in Armenia. Nikol Pashinyan has recently shown that he is unable to remain Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia. Nikol Pashinyan will not be able to ensure fair elections. If the elections are organized under Nikol Pashinyan’s prime ministership, they will not enjoy the trust of the majority of the people,” Artur Vanetsyan said.

Armenian PM sends invitation to Prosperous Armenia Party leader for meeting

Leader of the My Step faction of the National Assembly of Armenia Lilit Makunts today told reporters that Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan will obviously have a meeting with leader of Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik Tsarukyan and that, in any case, he has sent an invitation.

Makunts added that she doesn’t know how the developments will unfold.

Touching upon the Prime Minister’s meeting with leader of the opposition Bright Armenia Party Edmon Marukyan, Makunts said the following: “Marukyan said there will be a second round of negotiations, but I would recommend not going farther and waiting for the results of the second round.”

Asked if she thinks the My Step faction might form a coalition with Bright Armenia Party in a certain stage, Makunts said it wouldn’t be right to talk about coalitions in this stage and that it’s necessary to move forward step-by-step and reach an agreement over the holding of snap elections.

Earlier, Pashinyan had informed that he would have meetings with opposition parliamentary forces to consider the holding of snap parliamentary elections. Pashinyan has already met with Marukyan.

After yesterday’s statement of Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev, any method of struggle to save the Motherland can be used against internal and external enemies, Artsakh hero Arshavir Karamyan wrote on his Facebook page.

Earlier, Aliyev noted that “the new transport corridor will pass through the historical territories of Azerbaijan, Zangezur, connecting the main part of Azerbaijan with its integral part, Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic, and Turkey.”

“Armenia is trying to hinder the implementation of the Zangezur corridor. But it will not succeed,” he said. “One cannot expect a simpler and more daring statement from the enemy than this. The Homeland Salvation Movement operates in methods and forms that are disproportionate and disproportionate to the dangers described and declared by them. It seems that we have a lot of time, but we do not have it at all, and the countdown has already started…”
