FM Mnatsakanyan presents Armenia’s approaches in relations with Turkey

 12:41,

YEREVAN, APRIL 25, ARMENPRESS. Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan presented the approaches of Armenia in the relations with Turkey, ARMENPRESS reports Mnatsakanyan talked about the issue an interview with Public TV.

”Any step in politics should be the result of a cold-hearted and balanced calculation, and this is our guidlines for relations. Apart from the fact that we live under the conditions of denied justice, Turkey makes other steps that further deepen the issue – those steps include closed borders and unconditional support to Azerbaijan in Nagorno Karabakh conflict. All these factors together are a threat for us and we answer this threat in a way a state has to – we ensure our national security based on cold-hearted and balanced calculations’’, Mnatsakanyan said.

The Armenian FM referred to the announcement of special adviser to the President of Turkey and the presidential spokesperson İbrahim Kalın, where he referred to the Armenian-Turkish protocols.

”Discussing this distorted interpretation, I think, does not even bring honor for us, because we know the story very well. Armenia made an investment as a state, which presented people that survived the genocide, by carrying that process to the end. And you may remeber very well that it was a subject of very deep, difficult and popular debates. And what did we get by doing all that? We got that in reality Turkey just threw all that out of window. And this once again shows that this threat is deep-rooted. And those announcements just deepen the denialism, because denialism goes together with justification of genocide. All these together form impunity and threat”, the Minister said.

The Armenian-Turkish protocols on restoring diplomatic relations between the two countries without preconditions were initiated in 2008 and signed in 2009, but immediately after signing Turkey changed its position and conditioned the ratification of the protocols with the settlement of Nagorno karabakh conflict.

In 2010 Armenia suspended the ratification process of the protocols and in 2015 they were withdrawn from the National Assembly of Armenia.

On March 1, 2018 during the session of the National Security Council President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan announced terminating the process of ratifying the protocols “On Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Turkey” and “On Development of Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Turkey,” which were signed on October 10, 2009. President Serzh Sargsyan tasked the foreign minister to notify the Turkish side of Armenia’s decision.

Leader of VETO social movement Narek Malyan posted the following on his Facebook page:

“Good day, ‘proud’ citizens.

You remember being told that best men for weddings and friends and relatives weren’t going to be appointed to positions anymore in Armenia.

Well, I’m here to say you have been fooled. The ‘proud’ minister of justice Rustam Badasyan has appointed his best man Davit Gasparyan head of the Control Service of the Ministry of Justice, and Rustam Badasyan’s childhood friend Suren Galstyan has been appointed Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Justice.

The proud best man and friend of the minister are receiving bonuses with taxpayers’ money,” he wrote.

Sports: "Revealing Talents": Armenian right wing-back from Belgium

Public Radio of Armenia

NEWS.am Sport continues to present Armenian teen footballers who play abroad and dream of playing for the Armenian national football team.

Sargis Gaboyan, 14, plays in the U-15 team of the Belgian ASV Geel.

“Sargis has been playing football since he was six years old,” the father, Hrach Gaboyan told NEWS.am SPORT and added the following: He mainly plays as a right wing-back, but some coaches have also tried him in the “number 8” position (center midfielder-ed.).

In 2016-17, my son played for the teens’ team of KFC Duffel and then moved to Lierse SK.

Since 2019, he has been playing for the Belgian IP League’s ASV Geel. The Belgian teen championship is different from the championships of other countries in that it is a specific championship with high competition.

Sargis holds regular trainings at the Dutch PSV Academy. According to a preliminary agreement, he will be on probation in the Frency Lyon in September.

We’re in contact with FC Shirak’s coach Felix Khojoyan and the team’s former player Ara Adamyan, who is currently playing in France.

We would be happy and proud, if Sargis received an invitation from Armenia’s football team for teens. If invited, he will do everything he can to make sure he does his best and help his homeland.”

Washington, DC – Friday, we join the global community in memorializing the lives lost during the Meds Yeghern, one of the worst mass atrocities of the 20th century.  Beginning in 1915, 1 and a half million Armenians were deported, massacred, or marched to their deaths in the final years of the Ottoman Empire.  On this day of remembrance, we pay respect to those who suffered and lost their lives, while also renewing our commitment to fostering a more humane and peaceful world.

Every year on April 24, we reflect on the strong and enduring ties between the American and Armenian peoples.  We are proud of the founders of the American Committee for Armenian and Syrian Relief, a ground-breaking effort established in 1915 that provided crucial humanitarian support to Armenian refugees, and grateful for the thousands of Americans who contributed or volunteered to help Armenians expelled from their homes.

On this day, we bear witness to the strength and resiliency of the Armenian people in the face of tragedy.  We are fortunate that so many Armenians have brought their rich culture to our shores and contributed so much to our country, including decorated soldiers, celebrated entertainers, renowned architects, and successful businesspeople.

We welcome efforts by the Armenians and Turks to acknowledge and reckon with their painful history.  On this day, we believe it is our obligation to remember those who suffered and perished and reaffirm our commitment to protecting vulnerable religious and ethnic minorities around the world.
