Azerbaijani Press: The Armenian Karma of Senator Bob Menendez

News.az, Azerbaijan

By Mansur Aslanov

In April, New Jersey’s long-serving and controversial senator Bob Menendez got engaged to a self-described “international businesswoman” Nadine Arslanian. Along with congratulations to the couple, it is worth mentioning that engagements and marriages should, in principle, remain strictly personal affairs. Even if the Senate’s most pro-Armenian advocate is getting engaged to an ethnic Armenian lady, who he met a campaign rally.

However, there is small issue of karma in this case. In 2010, Senator Menendez blocked Matthew Bryza from being appointed as U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan because Bryza’s wife, Zeyno Baran, is ethnically Turkish. Yes, this is not a typo- a sitting U.S. senator denied an appointment to a career official based on the identity of the latter’s spouse, and was duly chastised by the Washington Post editorial board for that. Logically then, by his own, somewhat racist, standard, pushing every piece of Armenian agenda in Congress and now having been engaged to ethnic Armenian, Senator Menendez should resign from Congress. The absurdity of ethnic politics played by Menendez is so convoluted that his only hope is that his critics hold a higher moral ground than him and would not point out the obvious irony here. Like so many overt zealots of intolerance and homophobes, Menendez was fervently attacking a person in public for exactly the same thing he is doing now. Another sad twist in the Bryza story was that he was nominated by, Barack Obama, the first bi-racial president in history from the same party as Menendez.

Whether Senator Menendez is truly ignorant of geography or was intoxicated as a result of his close friendship with Dominican drug traffickers is hard to conclude. What is clear, however, is that the Senator denied the United States a full-fledged diplomatic presence in the world’s only nation bordering Russia and Iran. For all his grand-standing against Iran and Russia, Senator Menendez served their interests at the time they needed it. He also clearly damaged American strategic interests in the areas of energy security, growing threats from Iran and America’s standing in the region. All along, this was done in the name of Armenia, Moscow’s vassal, Iran’s regional proxy and Europe’s most anti-Semitic nation. Perhaps, Menendez is a genuine racist and couldn’t forgive Bryza’s his wife identity, or he did this to impress his future fiancé, or, maybe, his Armenian handlers manipulated him on behalf of their masters in foreign capitals. Hard to tell, except that he pursued foreign interests with much greater vigor than those of the United States.

Given Armenia’s deep-rooted corruption, which is increasingly becoming a turn-off for philanthropists in the Diaspora, and a near-complete domination of Armenian businesses by Iranian and Russian interests, Menendez should be careful about his engagement with “international businesses.” A useful reminder would be that, until recently, Armenia’s Consul General in Los Angeles was a Russian oligarch, another “international businessman.”

Of course, the voters in New Jersey are very understanding and have forgiven Senator Menendez’s corruption trial and his affairs with underage prostitutes in the Dominican Republic. Still, the U.S. Senate, where Menendez was “severely admonished” for ethics violations in 2018, may want to ask the Senator whether he would like to see his own racist standard be applied to him and his passion for Armenia be questioned because of his fiancé’s ethnicity.

Lawyer: Investigators spare no effort to make Armenia football federation former president and ex-MP’s son accused Lawyer: Investigators spare no effort to make Armenia football federation former president and ex-MP’s son accused

Football Federation of Armenia former president and ex-MP Ruben Hayrapetyan’s lawyer Amram Makinyan has made a post on his Facebook page.

“The accused is the victim, the victim is the accused… This is how the judicial statuses are being changed [in Armenia] with the help of a magic wand…

Investigators investigating the ‘especially important cases’ of the Investigative Committee spare no effort for Rafik Hayrapetyan, the son of Ruben Hayrapetyan, who suffered from the crime, to become an accused, whereas the real accused to become a victim…

What is the issue… years ago, the director of the company belonging to Rafik Hayrapetyan, without his knowledge and permission, fraudulently received a loan of tens of millions in the name of the company, cashed the money and spent it for personal needs…

And now, the investigators dealing ‘especially those involved in important cases’ (…) are engaged in the realization of the well-known character’s especially important dreams: taking revenge on Ruben Hayrapetyan at any cost…,” the attorney wrote, in particular.

Sports: Discovering young talents: Armenian midfielder from Moscow

News.am, Armenia

By Samvel Sukiasyan

NEWS.am Sport continues presenting the young Armenian football players who play abroad, but dream of playing for the Armenian national team one day.

Attacking midfielder Eduard Asriyants, 18, plays for the U19 team of CSKA Moscow.

“I was born on April 16, 2002 in Moscow. At the age of four, I started playing football at the football club of the central house of the Red Army. It was here that I refined my technique, which, according to the coaches, is one of my strongest qualities. I am a lefty, I play as an attacking midfielder and a right-forward.

From the age of 12, I joined the Labor Reserves children and youth’s sports school, where the coach played me in the position of attacking midfielder, revealing my potential. With that team we became the winners of Moscow’s top league, then we took the second place in the Premier League. I scored a lot of goals and received invitations from the strongest clubs in Moscow.

At that time, the teams of Labor Reserves were training at Spartak’s academy, and my transfer to that club was the most logical. As a member of Spartak, I became a three-time champion of the Moscow club league.
In 2019, I moved to CSKA. I have played in the U17 and U19 teams of this club. My goal is to move from youth to adult football and sign a professional contract.

A few months ago, the representatives of the Football Federation of Armenia contacted me. It would be a great honor for my family and me to receive an invitation from the Armenian national team.

I have a lot of experience in international tournaments at the club level. I am ready to represent Armenia with dignity in the international arena. Thank you very much for this interview. I hope we will meet in Armenia soon,” Eduard Asriyants said.

No decision will be made without the elected authorities of Artsakh – Pashinyan

Public Radio of Armenia

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has once again stressed the importance of Artsakh’s return to the negotiating table.

“No solution is possible without the participation of the elected authorities of Artsakh,” Pashinyan told a press conference today.

He noted that ensuring the return of Artsakh to the negotiating table is complex because the international community, the Minsk Group has been working in the current format for the past 22 years,” he stated.

Nikol Pashinyan said “we cannot make decisions on behalf of elected authorities of Artsakh.”

“If there is a solution which I will think is at least worth not to be rejected without consulting with the people, we’ll bring it to the attention of the Security Councils and Parliaments of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh,” the Prime minister stated.

He noted that since 2018 he has concluded an “agreement” with people that should leave no room to manipulation.

Since 2018 I have made such a public agreement with the people, that there can be no room for.

“I’m asked whether we can agree to an anti-Armenian solution to the Artsakh issue. You should ask yourself the question. Will you agree to an anti-Armenian solution? Because the man sitting at the negotiating table represents the people of Armenia,” he said.

The Prime Minster stressed that there is one distinct principle – nothing is decided unless everything is decided.
