Armenian FM congratulates Artsakh counterpart on re-appointment

YEREVAN, JUNE 2, ARMENPRESS. Foreign minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan has sent a congratulatory letter to foreign minister of Artsakh Masis Mailyan on re-appointment, the Artsakh MFA told Armenpress.

The letter says:

“I sincerely congratulate you on your re-appointment as foreign minister of Artsakh. I am confident that your rich experience and professionalism as a state official will greatly contribute to the further development of the Republic of Artsakh and raising its international reputation.

I am full of hope that through a constant dialogue with you we will manage to make more heard the voice of the Artsakh people at the international platforms, increase the engagement of the Artsakh authorities in the settlement process and by this raise the efficiency of the NK conflict settlement process for the benefit of regional peace and stability.

At this new stage of your tenure I wish you new achievements in the key mission to present Artsakh at the international arena”.

Armenia to participate in Victory Day military parade in Moscow

YEREVAN, JUNE 2, ARMENPRESS. Armenia will take part in the military parade dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War on June 24 in the Russian capital of Moscow, Defense minister’s spokesperson Shushan Stepanyan told Armenpress.

“A column from the Armenian side consisting of 75 people will participate in the military parade. They will carry Armenia’s and the Tamanyan division’s flags”, she said.  

Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic this year’s Victory Day celebrations in Russia scheduled on May 9 were postponed and will take place on June 24.

President of Armenia receives Artsakh’s Speaker of Parliament

YEREVAN, JUNE 2, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian hosted today Speaker of Parliament of Artsakh Artur Tovmasyan, the Presidential Office told Armenpress.

President Sarkissian once again congratulated the new Speaker and members of the Parliament of Artsakh, stating that the recent elections once again proved that Artsakh has been developed as a democratic state. “Artsakh once again proved that it’s a country where people think and act in a state way”, he said, wishing further success to the Speaker of Parliament.

In turn Artur Tovmasyan thanked for the reception and assured that he will continue the steps aimed at developing the inter-parliamentary ties and cooperation between Artsakh and Armenia. “Today’s meeting further increases my responsibility as a Speaker of Parliament”, he added.

Talking about the development prospects of Artsakh, the Armenian President highlighted clearly defining the priority tasks. He in particular mentioned the demographic issue and attached importance to supporting and promoting the people with various programs to settle in Artsakh.

YEREVAN, 2 JUNE, ARMENPRESS. The Central Bank of Armenia informs “Armenpress” that today, 2 June, USD exchange rate down by 0.53 drams to 482.49 drams. EUR exchange rate up by 2.50 drams to 539.28 drams. Russian Ruble exchange rate up by 0.10 drams to 7.02 drams. GBP exchange rate up by 7.88 drams to 606.25 drams.

The Central Bank has set the following prices for precious metals.

Gold price up by 0.02 drams to 26845.78 drams. Silver price up by 8.55 drams to 281.71 drams. Platinum price up by 79.01 drams to 12890.81 drams.

Austrian National Council unanimously ratifies Armenia-EU agreement

YEREVAN, JUNE 2, ARMENPRESS. The National Council of Austria has unanimously ratified the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Armenia and the EU, ARMENPRESS reports member of the National Assembly ”My step” faction Viktor Yengibaryan wrote on his Facebook page.

In her speech head of the South Caucasus Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Austrian parliament Gudrun Kugler noted that the agreement has to dimensions – one is strengthening of democracy and the other is about free trade. Gudrun Kugler recalled the velvet, non-violent revolution of Armenia in 2018 led by Nikol Pashinyan and saluted its peaceful nature.

Referring to EU-EAEU relations, she said ”Armenia has a special role in EU-EAEU relations. It’s an EAEU member state. By the ratification of the CEPA the opportunities for the Austrian companies to enter the huge EAEU market grow”.

The Head of the South Caucasus Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Austrian parliament finished her speech with a reference to the Armenian Genocide. ”Unfortunately, not all countries have recognized the genocide. The flags of the 32 countries that have recognized it hover at the Genocide memorial complex in Yerevan. We are proud to see the flag of Austria among them”, she said.

Artsakh’s President receives delegation of Football Federation of Armenia

YEREVAN, JUNE 2, ARMENPRESS. Artsakh Republic President Arayik Harutyunyan received the delegation of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) on June 2 led by head of the structure Armen Melikbekyan.

As ARMENPRESS was informed from the press service of the Artsakh President’s office, welcoming the guests, President Harutyunyan noted that the development of football as a mass sport has constantly been in the spotlight of Artsakh authorities.

Within this context President Harutyunyan highlighted the importance of the stadiums constructed in Artsakh in recent years and the work carried out by various football teams noting that in the conditions of appropriate cooperation with the FFA, it will undergo a qualitatively new development. President of the FFA Armen Melikbekyan also underlined the necessity of developing the sport and assured that in this regard various support programs will be of a continuous nature.

Armenian airlines banned from flying to EU

YEREVAN, JUNE 2, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian airlines have been banned from flying to the European Union, ARMENPRESS was informed from the official website of the EU.

The European Commission updates the EU aviation safety list on June 2,  the list of airlines that are subject to an operating ban or operational restrictions within the European Union as they do not meet international safety standards. All airlines certified in Armenia have been added to the list after further assessment of the country’s safety oversight capabilities.

Aircompany Armenia, Armenia Airways, Armenian Helicopters, Atlantis Armenian Airlines, Atlantis European Airways, Mars Avia-ն Skyball have been included in the list.

A total of 96 airlines have been banned from flying to the EU.

Pashinyan and family feel well, have no well-expressed symptoms

YEREVAN, JUNE 2, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and his family members, who are infected with the novel coronavirus, feel well, ARMENPRESS reports Pashinyan said in a briefing on June 2.

‘’We continue to stay in isolation at the Prime Minister’s residency. We all feel well. None of the 5 members of the family have any well expressed symptoms”, Pashinyan said.

He noted that his working scheduled has remained almost unchanged, only receptions have been cancelled.

Pashinyan informed about his and his family’s positive coronavirus test on June 1. He had no symptoms but was tested becuase of his planned visit to Artsakh.

Pashinyan predicts long-term economic crisis in case of returning to quarantine regime

YEREVAN, JUNE 2, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan predicts long-term economic crisis if Armenia returns to the strict regime of restrictions, ARMENPRESS reports Pashinyan said during a breifing on June 2.

”The healthcare system regularly raises the question of returning to total restrictions. The Commandant’s Office discusses this issue almost on daily basis. We have already seen the circle of restrictions. We have seen that it leads to almost catastrophic social and economic consequences. The state’s capacities are not limitless. In case of closing again we can confront an economic crisis that will not be possible to overcome during many years”, Pashinyan said.

A total of 10 thousand and 9 cases were recorded in Armenia by 11:00, June 2. 3427 have recovered. 6368 are active cases. A total of 59,917 tests have been conducted. Death rate is 158.

The State of Eergency has been prolonged until June 13.
