Azerbaijani press: UNSC publishes report on Armenia’s occupation policy in Azerbaijani territories

  •

  • NAGORNO KARABAKH CONFLICT

A comprehensive report on the international legal obligations of the aggressor country Armenia that occupied Azerbaijani territories has been published and circulated at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The author of the report is Professor, Royal Lawyer Malcolm Shaw (UK), AzerTag reports.

The main provisions of the report read as follows:

– The Armenian Armed Forces were directly involved in the occupation of the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan and seven adjacent regions.

– Armenia established a puppet regime in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan and continues to support its existence in various ways, including by maintaining a military presence there. Armenia cannot avoid responsibility for these violations of international law by trying to conceal its aggressive role behind the scenes of a puppet regime.

– International law prohibits the possession of territories by force. Therefore, any action taken by Armenia or its puppet regime in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan cannot change the previous legal status of these territories. Consequently, those territories are the territories of Azerbaijan in accordance with international law.

– Armenia holds state responsibility for its violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights. Such violations include attempts to change the laws and legal system of the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, infringement on property rights, demolition or destruction of cultural and historical monuments, the establishment of Armenian settlements in the occupied territories, improper treatment with people under the protection and their violent destruction.

– Armenia must stop its violations and pay compensation for the damage caused by these violations. These obligations can be monitored and enforced by the relevant UN human rights treaty bodies and international judicial institutions inconsistent with international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

– Armenia can be held individually responsible for the numerous military offenses, crimes against humanity, and genocide during this aggression through the national courts, as well as the courts of different countries or third countries. Its state responsibility can be executed by interstate mechanisms.

The report exposing Armenia’s occupation policy was published and circulated as an official document of the UN General Assembly and the Security Council.

Azerbaijani press: Markov: The West does not want to criticize repressions in Armenia

  •

  • ANALYTICS

Pashinyan is a man for the West, they don’t want to criticize him and close their eyes to all repressions, Russian public figure, political scientist, director of the Institute for Political Studies Sergey Markov told News.az.

He was commenting on the deprivation by the parliament of parliamentary immunity of the leader of the Armenian opposition faction Gagik Tsarukyan and permission for his arrest.

“The pro-Armenian lobby plays a very strong role here. They want Armenia to leave the EurAsEC and the Collective Security Treaty Organization, or, without leaving, destroy these organizations, whose leader is Russia … They put more pressure on Azerbaijan because the country pursues an independent policy. Now all standards have collapsed, they are no longer there, even double ones, they are in the past. They say and do what they want,” he said.

Speaking about what Pashinyan’s behavior is connected with, the expert noted that the popularity of the Armenian leader is decreasing day by day, while the system of state administration remains corrupted.

“This makes it possible to arrest anyone. He is afraid that there will be some point of crystallization around his opponents. And instead of the promised economic growth, people are demanding at least social revenge, punishment for the rich. And if there is a question why Pashinyan is fighting his rivals instead of persistently fighting against the coronavirus, the answer is simple – his own presence in power is his number one priority,” Markov said.

Armenian president Armen Sarkissian has met with My Step MP Tatevik Hayrapetyan and political scientist Edgar Elbakyan, president’s press service reported.

As Sarkissian noted: “We should do the best to make Artsakh a powerful state.”

According to him, Artsakh has pretty enough resources for a significant increase in human capital, and further development. Thus, practical steps should be taken in this regard.

As the president noted, Artsakh has every opportunity to actively engage in food production as well.

Highlighting the importance of the economy, demography, and food security, Sarkissian touched upon the availability of a national and state program in these fields.

“This applies not only to Artsakh. Our attention should be paid to the whole territory of Armenia. We need conceptual changes, we need to change our attitude,” the president added.

Sports: Interview: Armenian manager of Belgium football club (PHOTOS)

NEWS.am Sport continues to present Armenian football coaches working abroad.

Manager Hayk Melkonian, 26, recently took helm at the U15 team of Belgium’s Gent club.

“I was born on August 24, 1993 in Beirut. I was three years old when my family moved to Antwerp, Belgium, where I still live.

I played football until I was 17. But serious injuries and the opportunity to start a coaching career at the academies of Belgian clubs forced me to “hang up my football boots by nails.”

In 2011, I was admitted to the Leuven university of sports science. In 2011-2012, I coached OH Leuven’s U7 team, then I worked with the youth team of VK Linden of the regional league.

In 2013-2015, I led Royal Antwerp FC’s U7, then from U9 to U11 teams, and helped the manager of the second team. In 2015-2017, I led the U10, U12, U13, and U16 teams of YR KV Mechelen.

In 2016, I received a Class A coaching license, and an Elite Youth License from UEFA.

I have been working as a scout since 2017, and I am looking for talents—in cooperation with the Belgian football federation.

At the age of 23, while working for KVW Zaventem, I was named the youngest coach in the Belgian National League (the fourth division), and a year later I headed KFC Turnhout which, led by me, was able to maintain its place in the third division.

For the 2020/2021 season, I have signed a contract with one of the best clubs in Belgium, KAA Gent. I have led the U15 team, and at the same time I will also carry out the duties of the sporting director of the U8 and U12 teams.

I continue to learn languages. I already speak nine languages, some of which—fluently. If we do not count Armenian, then they are English, Dutch, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, and Arabic.

My thoughts and heart are connected with Armenia. Last December, I visited my homeland, got acquainted with FFA [Football Federation of Armenia] technical director Gines Melendez , and also got familiarized with the program for the development of children and youth football in Armenia. I am very happy that football is developing in Armenia. I hope that in the near future I will be able to be useful to Armenian football with my coaching experience,” Hayk Melkonian said.
