ARF Western U.S. On San Francisco School, Center Hate Crime

July 27,  2020

Armenian Revolutionary Federation Western U.S.

The Armenian Revolutionary Federation Western US condemns Azerbaijan’s acts of aggression against Armenia and Artsakh, Turkey’s support and justification for the use of military force against Armenians that echo Erdogan’s recent threats that Turkey will “finish what their ancestors started” in the Armenian Genocide.

It is this continued hatred encouraged by Turkey and Azerbaijan that has fueled the violence on the border with Armenia when Azerbaijan’s armed forces launched an attack on civilian and military targets in Armenia’s Tavush Province, breaching Armenia’s sovereignty.

This brazen disregard for human rights has spread to numerous countries throughout the world in cities like Moscow, Kyiv, Berlin and London where Azerbaijani mobs have attacked and beaten innocent Armenians, burned and looted Armenian owned businesses in Russia and Ukraine, set ablaze a vehicle belonging to the Armenian Embassy in Germany and have attacked peaceful Armenian protests, like the one organized by the Armenian Youth Federation last week in Los Angeles.

Essentially, the anti-Armenian state policies of Baku and Ankara have spilled outside of the region and are being carried out by a new generation of fanatics who last week vandalized the Krouzian-Zekarian Vasbouragan school and the Armenian Community Center in San Francisco with racial slurs, vulgarities and threats.

We are not, and will not be, intimidated by the coordinated acts of violence and aggression by Turkey and Azerbaijan aimed at Armenian Diasporan communities. We continue to stand in solidarity with the Republics of Armenia and Artsakh and their Armed Forces. We remain on the side of truth and justice and will continue our unwavering commitment to the security of Armenia and Artsakh, as well as pursue the international recognition of Artsakh.

In light of these violent assaults and hate crimes committed against our community, we call on the authorities to offer additional security and protection to ensure the safety of the peaceful Armenian population community  throughout the Western United States and urge the relevant bodies to investigate and prosecute those responsible for these heinous acts.

We further call on our community to remain vigilant yet steadfast in our resolve for justice for the Armenian nation at home and abroad; to take action and continue to support initiatives from the ANCA and support the AYF With Our Soldiers program to assist our soldiers on the border and our fallen hero’s families.

Artsakh reaffirms commitment to full cessation of fire and hostilities – MFA Artsakh

Artsakh reaffirms committment to full cessation of fire and hostilities – MFA Artsakh

 20:46,

YEREVAN, JULY 27, ARMENPRESS. The Republic of Artsakh confirms its adherence to the commitments assumed to fulfill the agreements on the full cessation of fire and hostilities. At the same time, the authorities of Artsakh will continue to take all necessary measures to strengthen the country’s security, and they are ready to suppress any attempt by Azerbaijan to launch a new aggression against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Artsakh. ARMENPRESS reports Artsakh’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of signing the trilateral document confirming the ceasefire commitments.

”26 years ago, on July 26-27, 1994, the Republic of Artsakh, Azerbaijan and Armenia, under the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmen, signed a document, in which they confirmed their strong determination to continue to fulfill their ceasefire commitments and fixed the indefinite nature of the Agreement on the full cessation of fire and hostilities of May 12, 1994.

This trilateral document, as well as the agreement of May 12, 1994 and the agreement of February 6, 1995 on strengthening the ceasefire created the required conditions for finding a settlement of the Azerbaijan-Karabakh conflict through negotiations, and they serve as a basis for the peace process so far. Being the key elements of the process of not only settlement of the Azerbaijan-Karabakh conflict, but also for ensuring regional security in the South Caucasus as a whole, these agreements are the best evidence of the efficiency of the trilateral negotiation format, within which they became possible.

Unfortunately, we periodically witness attempts by the Azerbaijani side to relinquish its commitments to maintain peace in the region and to endow itself with an imaginary right to unleash a war, as well as to undermine the agreements making the basis for the peaceful settlement process. However, such attempts have always met with a sharply negative reaction from the international community.

In 2016, in response to the situation that arose as a result of a new war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh and the attempts by official Baku to denounce the Agreement on the full cessation of fire and hostilities of 12 May 1994, the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing states – Russia, the United States and France, as well as the Secretary General of the United Nations, the OCSE Chairperson-in-Office and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe called for the strict adherence to the commitments to maintain the ceasefire, thereby recognizing the binding nature of the aforementioned agreements of 1994-1995.

Against the background of the direct armed aggression of Azerbaijan unleashed on the Tavush section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border on July 12, 2020 and the subsequent targeted escalation of the situation, the need for the international community to take practical measures to ensure the impressibility of the peace process and to exclude the possibility of resumption of the hostilities becomes increasingly urgent. The escalation of tensions on July 12 serves as yet another reminder of the imperative nature of the immediate establishment of mechanisms for the international ceasefire control.

The Republic of Artsakh confirms its adherence to the commitments assumed to fulfill the agreements on the full cessation of fire and hostilities. At the same time, the authorities of Artsakh will continue to take all necessary measures to strengthen the country’s security, and they are ready to suppress any attempt by Azerbaijan to launch a new aggression against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Artsakh’’, reads the statement.

Azerbaijan should publicly renounce use of force, abandon its maximalist approaches – MFA Armenia

YEREVAN, JULY 27, ARMENPRESS. Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry of Armenia Anna Naghdalyan commented on the killing of an Armenian serviceman by an Azerbaijani sniper on July 17 and the announcement of Azerbaijan about holding large-scale military exercises together with Turkey. As ARMENPRESS was informed from the press service of the MFA Armenia, Naghdalyan said,

”On July 27, as a result of deliberate ceasefire violation by Azerbaijan, serviceman Ashot Mikayelyan was fatally wounded by the Azerbaijani sniper fire. We express our deepest condolences and solidarity to the family and friends.

It should be stressed that Azerbaijan resorted to this provocation few days after the statement issued by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, which particularly emphasized the importance of strictly adhering to the ceasefire and refraining from provocative actions in this period.

At the same time, Azerbaijan announced joint large-scale military exercises to be held with Turkey. All these demonstrate that the leadership of Azerbaijan, through its provocative actions, is undermining the efforts of the international mediators aimed at de-escalating the situation and resuming the peace process, thus bearing the responsibility for the consequences of further destabilization.

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan clearly presented the position of the Republic of Armenia on the current situation at the session of the Government held on July 23. Azerbaijan should publicly renounce the use of force, abandon its maximalist approaches, and take credible steps to strengthen the ceasefire, which will make possible the resumption and advancement of the peace process”.
