YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan addressed a congratulatory message on the Knowledge and Schooling Day, the PM’s Office told Armenpress.

 “Dear pupils and students,

Dear teachers and parents,

I congratulate you on the occasion of the Knowledge and Schooling Day.

The situation in the Republic caused by the novel coronavirus pandemic doesn’t enable to visit school on this memorable day. Unfortunately, the first graders as well have to spend their September 1st without entering to an educational facility.

Nevertheless, after analyzing the development course of the pandemic, we decided to open the schools after several days and ensure the study process with the maintenance of the anti-coronavirus rules.

At the same time, I am happy that universities are partially starting their activity from September 1st, and the freshmen are entering into a new stage of life to fill and enrich the concrete professional knowledge.

At the same time I want to thank all teachers for conducting the remote learning at the highest level.

Dear pupils and students,

As I said above, during this academic year we should strictly follow the anti-coronavirus rules aimed at preventing the possibility of schools becoming a center for the spread of the virus, in order to be able to conduct the study process in a normal way. I am sure that we will jointly overcome also this difficulty with consistent steps”, the Armenian PM said, urging the students and pupils to confidently move on the new way of life for their benefit and for the benefit of their parents, the people and the state.

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. Several members of an organized crime syndicate consisting of Armenians and Iranians are under arrest for racketeering and defrauding around 50 citizens of Iran in a travel fraud, the Armenian police said in a news release.

Two Iranian citizens recruited their 50 countrymen and transported them to Armenia under the pretext of organizing their further travel to European countries. The accomplices of the Iranian duo, who are citizens of Armenia, met the victims of the fraud in Armenia and charged a total of nearly 300,000 dollars for their services – which from the beginning was a fraud. The con artists presented themselves to be representatives of law enforcement or diplomatic sectors in order to obtain the victims’ trust.

Some of the 50 people were taken to Turkey and Georgia and promised to be sent to their preferred destinations afterwards. However, they were again taken back to Armenia and had their passports seized by the perpetrators.

Police said several of the Iranian suspects were identified and have given statements.

Other members of the crime group have been apprehended and arrested. Some of the seized passports of the victims have been recovered amid the ongoing criminal investigation.

“I’m delighted to announce that I have permanently joined the Giallorossi,” Mkhitaryan wrote.

“Firstly, I would like to thank Arsenal, its personnel and the millions of Gunners, all whom supported me over the past year and a half. A special thanks goes to Arsene Wenger for having brought me to the club and for his trust in me.

“Now the preparation begins with my new challenge and my second year adventure in Serie A.

“I love the city of Roma, I love this club and I count the fans in my heart. I will give all of my effort in helping us achieve our goals!”

Mkhitaryan spent last season on loan with the Italian side, scoring nine goals in 22 Serie A appearances as Roma secured a fifth-place finish.

Does Armenia officially recognize Lukashenko as legitimate president of Belarus?

Panorama, Armenia
Sep 1 2020

Armenia strongly hopes that the situation in Belarus will be resolved peacefully, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan said in an interview with Interfax on Monday.

To the reporter’s remark that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan came to power as a result of a “velvet”, non-violent revolution in 2018 and now it turns out that Armenia supports the Belarusian leader, the minister said: “There is no doubt that the key to handling the difficult situation is in the hands of the people of Belarus. Armenia has passed its own path and it isn’t right to draw parallels between them. Yes, there can be some shared criteria, but in general, we have two different situations. The most important thing is to understand and acknowledge that it’s for the people of Belarus to resolve the issue. We strongly hope that the situation will be resolved peacefully.”

Asked whether Armenia officially recognizes Alexander Lukashenko as the legitimate president of Belarus, Mnatsakanyan said that Pashinyan has congratulated the president of Belarus.

“We will follow how the people of Belarus will resolve this problem. We intend to work with Belarus in all directions, both on bilateral and international platforms,” he added.
