20 families deported from Azerbaijan received housing certificates

ArmInfo. On March 4, a ceremony was held in Yerevan to present housing certificates to 20 families deported from Azerbaijan. As the Minister of Territorial  Administration and Infrastructures of the Republic of Armenia Suren  Papikyan noted, the beneficiaries of the first stage of the program  are 112 families, the Government allocated 1.5 billion drams to solve  housing problems.

According to Papikyan, the beneficiaries of the program will receive  their certificates in stages, over the course of the current year.  The certificate is valid for one year: during this time, their owners  will have to resolve issues with the selection of suitable housing.  The Minister noted that the budget for 2020 provides for the  allocation of 2.1 billion drams for the next stage of the program,  and the number of beneficiaries involved in it will be 185.

To recall, from 1988 to 1992, pogroms of the Armenian population took  place in Azerbaijan. Pogroms took place in Sumgait, Baku and other  large cities of Azerbaijan with the Armenian population. As a result  of this ethnic cleansing by Azerbaijan, about 420,000 Armenian  families became refugees. From 2005 to 2008, a housing program for  refugees was organized in Armenia.

About 1000 certificates for the purchase of housing were issued,  however, only 700 certificates were implemented.

As Bagrat Badalyan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and  Infrastructures of the Republic of Armenia previously noted, 895  families are registered, of which 641 are in Yerevan and 254 are in  the regions. Given the rather large amount of necessary financial  resources, refugee housing problems are envisaged to be solved in  stages.

Particular attention will be paid to the guests of the hotels of  Sebastia, Nairi and Interrimini, who are constantly under threat of  eviction from the owners of these hotels. The remaining families  receive housing in the subsequent stages in accordance with the  programs provided for by the state budget.

The host of one of the local television stations in Turkey’s Urfa Province has made xenophobic statements.

Trying to justify the Turkish military operations in Syria’s Idlib, he called on foreign nationals living in Turkey, including Armenians, to get out of the the country, Ermenihaber reported.

“There may be people who think that this country is not their homeland and they don’t belong to this nation. This is a wonderful opportunity for them. As long as the borders are open to refugees, you, too, can disguise as refugees and leave the country,” he said.

“You can say: I am not the son of this country, I am a Russian grandson, a son of a German, a grandson of an Englishman, an Armenian… If so, the borders are open, get out of here, go!” he said.

Unlocking Armenia, The Travel Insider’s Destination To Visit In 2020

Mountains, monasteries and a whole lot of mystery await in Armenia, a must-visit this year
There are a few elements that need to come together for a destination to rise in collective travellers’ consciousness, and that build-up has been happening to Armenia. The success of neighbouring Georgia put the spotlight on the entire Caucasus region, an area that also spans Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia and considered the natural boundary between Europe and Asia.

Still relatively unexplored, the region offers an interesting blend of East-meets-West delights—rich history, gorgeous scenery, novel cuisine, and lots of adventure—without the swarm of tourists. That it ticks all the boxes speaks of its immense appeal, meaning it won’t be long until it floods your Instagram feed. In the case of Armenia, it has already been featured on Kim Kardashian’s account, who visited the country in October 2019 to baptise her children and get to know her Armenian heritage better.

YEREVAN, MARCH 3, ARMENPRESS. Armenia has nearly 1000 laboratory test kits for detecting novel coronavirus and will get 2000 more on March 6. ARMENPRESS reports Healthcare Minister of Armenia Arsen Torosyan said in an interview with journalist Karlen Aslanyan, RFE/RL’s Armenian Service.

“In addition, we negotiate with the UK and Russia. There are some offers also from China, Japan and the USA. We are still considering if we should get new test kits, since up till now we received the test kits from our partners as assistance. It’s possible that there will be no need for new ones, because my prediction is that we are on the way of declining outbreaks with the exception of one-two countries. Many other specialist also share my prediction”, Torosyan said.

According to the Minister, the regulations of the movements in the border checkpoints of Armenia give positive results and maybe there will be no need for getting more test kits.

32 people in Armenia are isolated with coronavirus suspicions. They stay at “Golden Palace” hotel in Tsakhkadzor.

YEREVAN, MARCH 3, ARMENPRESS. The President of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan received the delegation led by the General Director of Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe (CoE) Christos Giakoumopoulos on March 3.

As ARMENPRESS was informed from the press service of the parliament of Armenia, welcoming the guests Ararat Mirzoyan noted that following their previous meeting Armenia has implemented serious reforms in a number of directions: that process goes on, particularly today the National Assembly has been discussing a huge package of judiciary reforms, and these reforms will again become essential steps for the corruption prevention and recuperation and independence of the judicial system.

Christos Giakoumopoulos asked for details about the ongoing processes over the Constitutional Court and the expected referendum in the near future, noting that in the Council of Europe they understand that this is very important for the people of Armenia, and they will be glad to provide assistance.

Ararat Mirzoyan explained in detail the situation and stressed that to his deep conviction, this referendum and, in general, the solution of this issue will be a very serious step on the way to the further democratization of Armenia. The President of the National Assembly of Armenia underlined that there cannot be full democracy if the branches of power don’t restrain each other, as well as the judicial power cannot be part of democratic system and restrain the other branches, unless it is independent, unbiased, objective and professional, however, there is no such Constitutional Court in Armenia, and the referendum is the best way for making those changes.
