Some Arsenal fans couldn’t believe that star Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who was recently loaned out to Roma, turned in a phenomenal display for Armenia vs Bosnia.

Arsenal attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan turned in a sensational performance for Armenia against Bosnia in his country’s European Championships qualifier earlier today.

The star scored two goals and provided two assists as he inspired his country to a 4-2 win.

Mkhitaryan was used in a central attacking midfield role, for the Gunners the Armenian has largely been used on the wings – a position where he fails to make this kind of impact.

The former Manchester United ace faced off against Gunners teammate Sead Kolasinac in the clash. Mkhitaryan certainly made sure that he came away with bragging rights.

Take a look at the star’s opener for his country below:

The star followed that up with a superb finish in the 66th minute:

The ace didn’t stop there as he added an assist in the 77th minute:
Mkhitaryan could have come away from the game with a hat-trick, but his last-minute effort was turned into the net by Bosnia’s defender:
Here’s some hilarious reaction to the star’s masterclass for his country:

Arsenal will be hoping that the 30-year-old attacking midfielder can carry this form into his loan spell with Roma, perhaps the Gunners can sell the ace to the Italian giants after a successful loan.

Alternatively, Mkhitaryan could return to north London and finally become the player that fans expected when he was brought to the Emirates in a swap deal involving Alexis Sanchez.

Before the game there had been much hype in Italy about Henrikh Mkhitaryan coming up against his new AS Roma compatriot Edin Dzeko in this match and it was the Arsenal man who stole the plaudits.

Netting the opener after just three minutes, he scored a second in the 66th after Dzeko had equalised in the first half. The second goal is certainly something
He also got an assist for the third:

He also assisted Stjepan Loncar as he put the ball into the back of his own net to make it 4-2.

I think it’s safe to say that if we’d seen more of this from Mkhitaryan he would still be at the club. As it stands, he scored just 9 goals, with 13 assists, in 59 Arsenal games.

Then again, perhaps Unai Emery’s shackles had something to do with things…

Sports: Robert Prosinecki quits Bosnia-Herzegovina post after Armenia defeat

Fox Sports

Robert Prosinecki quits Bosnia-Herzegovina post after Armenia defeat
A 4-2 defeat in Armenia was the final straw for Robert Prosinecki, who resigned as Bosnia-Herzegovina coach on Sunday.

Robert Prosinecki quit as Bosnia-Herzegovina coach after Sunday’s 4-2 defeat to Armenia left them with little hope of reaching Euro 2020.

Former Real Madrid and Barcelona midfielder Prosinecki was hired in January 2018 and enjoyed a fine start to his tenure, but Sunday’s result leaves them in a poor position.

“I talked to everyone and no longer [will I be coach], I resign,” he said after the match. “When I arrived, I believed we would make it to the Euros.

“We have not succeeded in this and my successor will have time to prepare the team for the Nations League. I am no longer the coach.”

Prosinecki presided over Bosnia’s 2018-19 Nations League campaign, seeing them top their group and earn promotion to league A for 2020-21.

He also matched Bosnia’s record unbeaten run of nine matches in November last year and only failed to reach 10 by virtue of a late 1-0 defeat to Spain.

But things began to fall apart early on in Euro 2020 qualifying, as they spurned a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at home to Greece in match two, following that up with consecutive defeats to Finland and Italy.

They returned to winning ways with a 5-0 thrashing of Liechtenstein – Prosinecki’s biggest win at the helm – on Thursday, but they underwhelmed away to a Henrikh Mkhitaryan-inspired Armenia three days later.

The Roma winger scored twice and got an assist, as Armenia netted two in the final 13 minutes to move above Bosnia in Group J.

The result leaves Bosnia with seven points after six matches, already five adrift of Finland, who have played a game fewer.

YEREVAN, Sept 8 (Reuters) – Armenia captain Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored twice as Armenia stunned Bosnia with a dramatic 4-2 win in their Euro 2020 qualifier on Sunday, prompting the resignation of Bosnia’s coach Robert Prosinecki.

The win lifted Armenia above Bosnia in Group J as they moved into third place with nine points, three behind Finland, while Bosnia are fourth with seven.

The top two qualify for next year’s tournament although Bosnia could also qualify through the Nations League playoffs after winning their group in that competition.

“I was very optimistic and I still think Bosnia is a very good team but something obviously isn’t right,” said Prosinecki on the Bosnia FA website after the defeat.

“It seems I have failed to motivate the team.”

The game got off to a lively start as Edin Dzeko hit the post with a low shot for Bosnia before his AS Roma team mate Mkhitaryan gave the hosts a third-minute lead.

The midfielder collected Tigran Barseghyan’s cross from the right before pushing it past goalkeeper Ibrahim Sehic and thumping it into the net.

Bosnia hit back 10 minutes later as Amer Gojak’s inswinging cross found Dzeko who got away from the Armenia defence to turn the ball into the net.

Mkhitaryan, Armenia’s record scorer, put his team back in front in the 66th minute when he provided an emphatic finish to a well-worked move, his 29th goal for his country, but Gojak levelled again for Bosnia four minutes later.

Mkhitaryan then turned provider as he supplied a perfect cross for Hovhannes Hambardzumyan to score at the far post in the 77th minute.

Gojak could have equalised in stoppage time but volleyed wide from a good position and then Stjepan Loncar turned Mkhitaryan’s cross into his own net to complete the scoring.

Sports: Arsenal supporters react as Mkhitaryan stars for Armenia

Read Arsenal
Sept 8 2019

Many supporters have responded on social media as Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored twice and assisted once in Armenia’s 4-2 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After completing his deadline day loan move to AS Roma, the winger was an instrumental figure for Armenia on Sunday afternoon with a fine display to help his side to an important Euro 2020 qualifier victory.

And following his performance, many have taken to Twitter to suggest that Roma should now buy him permanently, while others believe he will have an excellent campaign in Serie A after leaving on loan.

Mkhitaryan certainly seemed to unleash on Bosnia after completing his loan switch to Roma, and his performance will no doubt have many questioning why he could not replicate that form at the Emirates.

While some will point the finger at the winger himself for simply not performing well enough at Arsenal, others will blame Unai Emery for not being able to get the best out of the Armenian.

Either way, he was in excellent form for Armenia and all eyes will be on his Serie A debut for Roma to gauge whether it was a flash in the pan or whether he is really back to his best.

Armenians flock to Akhtamar for annual religious service

Hundreds of Armenians flocked to the Surb Khach (Holy Cross) Armenian Church on Akhtamar Island in Lake Van for the annual religious service.

After a four-year break, the religious service resumed last year. The services were suspended due to security concerns.

The church was built between 915 and 921 A.D. by architect Bishop Manuel under the sponsorship of Gagik I Artsruni of the Kingdom of Vaspurakan.

The church was abandoned after theArmenian Genocide of 1915. The building’s restoration began in 2005 and opened as a museum two years later.

Believed to have been constructed to house a piece of the “True Cross,” which was used in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the church was restored in 2005 and opened in 2007. The church is usually open to visitors as a museum.

Sports: Robert Prosinecki: Congratulations to Armenia on a well-deserved victory

News.am, Armenia
Sept 8 2019

By Samvel Sukiasyan

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s squad managed, Robert Prosinechka, commented on the Armenian squad 4-2 defeat in a clash for Euro 2020 qualifying tournament.

“I congratulate the Armenian team on a well-deserved victory. We have not used our scoring chances, and we need to move forward,” he said. “Yes, we’ve expected such an aggressive game from the Armenian team. Perhaps, when it was 2-2, there was a penalty when they fouled on Edin Dzeko. But this is not so important, as it was an Armenian team well-deserved victory.””

“I think that our team has lost the chances of leaving the group,” he said. “It will be difficult for Armenia as well, as Italy and Finland are still ahead.”

Armenia’s national team ranked third with nine points, leaving behind Bosnia with 7 points. Italy leads with 15 points, leaving behind Finland with 12 points.
