Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan commented on the possibility to decrease gas and electricity tariffs.

During the parliamentary debate of the government’s program on June 7, in response to Tsarukyan faction MP Vardan Bostanjyan’s question, the PM said there is a problem with the gas and electricity tariffs, and they are dealing with that.

“During the meeting with the Russian President we highly appreciated the fact that Russia supplies gas to Armenia at a very affordable price. But I stated that the Armenian citizen attaches importance to the fact on what price he/she consumes the gas in his/her house, rather than with what price Russia supplies gas to Armenia. Today the citizen of Armenia doesn’t feel that he/she consumes Russia’s cheap gas, and I think here there can be some ineffective management, even up to corruption risks. And I think the Russian leadership understands that we should seriously deal with these issues and understand what is taking place”, the Armenian PM said.

Commenting on the question regarding the electricity tariff, the PM said here also there are problems, and the government is dealing with them. “I just don’t want to make an early statement, but I assure you that we are seriously dealing with these issues and we hope to reach concrete results on this matter”, Nikol Pashinyan said.

Armenian Prime Minster Nikol Pashinyan commented on the criticisms according to which there is no clarity in the government’s program, it is not clearly stated what economic growth is expected and to what extent the poverty will decline.

The PM told reporters in the Parliament that at the moment the government’s task is to assess the shadow volumes of the country’s economy. “This is very important issue. Now, for instance, who can say how many percent shadow our economy has? The government previously estimated it 22%, the international organizations assess it 46% and so on. I want to draw your attention on the fact that the numbers fixed in the previous government’s programs have not become a reality as a rule. We are going not to write numbers, but to make major changes in the country. And these changes will lead to results”, the PM said.

In response to the question that if today the government’s program is approved, the next mechanism is going to be his resignation for the snap elections, when to expect his resignation, PM Pashinyan said: “Within a year”.

Ontario Progressive Conservative (PC) leader Doug Ford has won the provincial election with a majority government, overtaking both NDP leader Andrea Horwath and incumbent Premier Kathleen Wynne.

Just 15 minutes after polls closed, the PCs had a commanding lead.

Ford successfully channelled populist sentiment in Ontario and successfully galvanized voters’ anger towards the Liberals, who spent the last 15 years in power. Ford had banked on voters believing in his vision for change and pledges to cut government spending, slash taxes for the middle class and offer relief to minimum-wage workers.

PC member Aris Babikian made history on Thursday night, becoming the first Armenian candidate to win a seat in an Ontario provincial election. Long time community activist and former citizenship judge Aris Babikian run as the PC candidate for Scarborough-Agincourt riding.

Aris Babikian is a retired Citizenship Judge, World Vision Canada Multicultural Council Ambassador, Chair of Levant Settlement Centre, and board member of the National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada.

As citizenship judge, he lectured on human rights, civic participation, tolerance, Canadian values and traditions. Aris has strong attachment to Canada’s youth.

His unwavering commitment to volunteerism and to public service is well known. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Canadian civil society, the Canadian government awarded Aris with Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee, Diamond Jubilee Medals and Canada’s 125th Confederation Commemorative Medal.

As president of the Armenian National Federation of Canada and the first executive director of the government relations office (Ottawa) of the Armenian National Committee of Canada, he contributed significantly to the Canadian-Armenian community’s political, educational, cultural, youth and sports domains.

Armenia coach: We’ll have 8 small finals in Nations League

Two things matter the most for me in football: the quality of the play and the motivation. I really wanted to see that in the players, and to some extent I did.

The Nations League kicks off in September. We’ll have eight games, and they will be eight small finals. We will try to win them all, because even a draw would be a big problem for us.

We will have a main scheme and an alternative one in the Nations League. There won’t be friendlies before the tournament and we will have a training camp with available players.

Roman Berezovsky has done an excellent job. I could see the excitement of the goalkeepers who worked with him. Berezovsky is able to manage any team. He has vast experience and knows all the details of the game.

As for me, I would not take this position if I didn’t have the enthusiasm. A lot has changed. I think we need to leave the memories behind and focus on the present. I want to focus on what I’m doing now and on my expectations.
